Our Story

Uht Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been serving the Westland area community for many years. We’re thankful to be an important part of this community and will continue our longstanding legacy of helping families honor their loved ones.

The Uht Funeral Home had its humble beginnings in the 1800s in Huron Township, Michigan. Mantous Uht’s grandfather and father were local cabinetmakers on the corner of Huron River Drive and Sibley Road in what is now known as New Boston. As many craftsmen did during this time period, they also built and provided coffins to families in the area who had experienced the loss of a loved one.

Mr. Mantous Uht purchased an existing funeral home from Web Morton in the village of Wayne, Michigan located near the corner of Wayne Road and Main Street in 1925. Mr. Uht operated his funeral home for nearly 15 years before entering a partnership with Harold Kennedy in the 1940s and lasted until 1951. On March 1, 1952, a new partnership was formed with Harold Rediske Sr. and lasted until the death of Mr. Mantous Uht in January of 1961. Throughout this time, the funeral home also provided an ambulance emergency service for the surrounding community.

The city of Wayne purchased the former building and property in order to begin their Urban Renewal Program in 1965. The new building for Uht Funeral Home was built in the city of Westland at the corner of Glenwood Road and Harvey Street. The business relocated in March of 1967 and remains there today.

In 1980, Harold Rediske Sr. passed down the business to his son, Harold Rediske Jr. Harold Rediske Jr. was well known in the Wayne-Westland area. He was a proud alumnus of Wayne Memorial High School, a member of the Wayne Rotary, the Wayne Masonic Lodge, and St. Mary Catholic Church.

Harold Rediske Jr. stepped down as owner in 2018, when his son, Harold Rediske II, or Howie as he is more widely known, took over. Howie Rediske remains the owner to the present, where he continues to offer compassionate services and maintain the family legacy.

After over three generations of service, Uht Funeral Home strives to continue to provide its tradition of outstanding service within and to the community. It is our goal to provide each family with compassionate care throughout the entire funeral process.
