Obituary

Timothy Donald Carpenter, affectionately known as Tim, a man of great humor, profound skill, and immeasurable love, passed away on June 20, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on May 12, 1950, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Tim's life was one of dedication, both to his country and his family. He departed this world in Livonia, Michigan, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, craftsmanship, and service.

Tim's journey began as the son of Donald Walter Carpenter and Rebecca May Carpenter. His early years were shaped by the values of a military family, instilling in him a strong sense of duty and resilience. These traits were evident when Tim answered the call to serve his nation as a proud member of the United States Navy. He served with honor aboard the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War, a period that would leave a lasting impact on his life.

After his military service, Tim found his calling as a lineman with AT&T. For 43 years, he dedicated himself to his work, ensuring that the lines of communication were always open for others. His commitment to his brothers-in-arms continued as he became a commander at the VFW post Harris-Kehrer, offering support and camaraderie to fellow veterans.

Tim's love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 51 years, Sue Carpenter, who stood by him through life's many adventures. Together, they raised a family that includes their daughters, Katie (Bob) Haggard and Sherry (Dave) Campbell; their son, Eric (Katie) Carpenter; his sister, Jacque Jentzen; and his brother, David Carpenter. Timothy's joy was multiplied through his grandchildren, Shelby (Robert Preston) Carpenter, Sydney Campbell, Cole Campbell, Blake Haggard, and Kyle Carpenter, as well as his great-grandson, Jaxon Carpenter. His playful spirit and heartfelt stories will be cherished by them all. Preceding him in death were his father, Donald, his mother, Rebecca, his sister, Jill, and his faithful dog, Dexter.

Beyond his family and service, Tim was known as a masterful carpenter. He had a gift for working with wood, creating beautiful pieces that adorned the homes of his loved ones. His hands were rarely still, as he was the quintessential jack of all trades and the go-to handyman for many. His family's homes are filled with memories and tangible pieces of his talent and love.

Tim's youthful spirit found joy in camping, an interest that he pursued with vigor in his younger years. He loved to listen to music—it brought him joy and comfort. That simple love became something he shared with his kids, a quiet gift that stayed with them and still plays on in their lives. His great sense of humor was infectious; he was always ready with a joke or a tale that would bring laughter to any gathering. Described by those who knew him as funny, handy, and loving, Timothy was a man who could brighten a room with his presence.

To have known Timothy Donald Carpenter was to know a life well-lived. He was a man who built more than just structures; he built a family, a community, and a legacy of love that will endure. As we bid farewell to a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, we take solace in the countless memories and stories that will forever keep his spirit alive in our hearts.
