Obituary

Steven Thomas Bayer, age 73, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, in Canton, Michigan. Born on April 9, 1953, in Webster, Massachusetts, Steven was the beloved son of the late Betty Jane Bayer.

Steven was a man whose life was defined by love, devotion, kindness, and family. He shared 37 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Patricia Bayer. Their relationship was one that many admired-a partnership built on unwavering love, friendship, and commitment. Steven adored Patricia and rarely missed an opportunity to hold her hand, a simple yet powerful reflection of the deep affection he carried for her every day of his life.

He was a loving brother to Jeffrey (Susan) Bayer and treasured the bond they shared throughout the years.

Steven's greatest pride and joy was his family. He was the devoted father of Dina McMenamin, April (Russ) Behm, Jeremy (Amber) Bayer, and Elise (Adam) Burton. He loved his children unconditionally and found immense happiness in watching them build lives and families of their own.

Nothing brought Steven more joy than being "Grandpa" to his cherished grandchildren: Aidan, Abby, Devin, Alex, Dylan, Brody, Katy, Gracie, Benjamin, and Henry. He was their biggest supporter, faithfully attending sporting events, school activities, performances, and milestones. Whether it was a sporting game or special celebration, Steven could always be counted on to be there, cheering from the sidelines with pride and encouragement. His grandchildren knew they were deeply loved, and the memories they shared with him will remain in their hearts forever.

Steven was known by all who met him as a genuinely kind and friendly man. He had an easygoing nature and a warm smile that made people feel welcome. He never sought attention or recognition, finding happiness instead in the simple blessings of life and the company of those he loved most.

A lifelong Michigan sports enthusiast, Steven was a passionate fan of all the hometown teams. Among his favorite traditions was the annual Detroit Tigers game that his daughters would take him to. Those outings became treasured family memories and were something he looked forward to each year with great excitement.

While many people define themselves by hobbies or accomplishments, Steven's greatest passion was simply spending time with his family. Whether gathered around a dinner table, celebrating holidays, attending a grandchild's event, or enjoying a quiet moment with Tricia, he found his greatest fulfillment in being surrounded by those he loved. He was a steady presence, a trusted source of support, and a man whose love was felt through his actions every single day.

Steven's legacy is one of unwavering devotion, kindness, loyalty, and family. He leaves behind countless memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those who knew him. Though his presence will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught through his love, generosity, and dedication to family will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Steven will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his wife, children, grandchildren, brother, extended family, and many dear friends.
