Obituary

Sandra Putman, aged 93, of Wayne, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026. She was born in Chesaning, Michigan on December 14, 1932 to the late Olga Mary D'Pulos and Mineloas (Mike) D'Pulos. The family moved to Wayne in in the early 1940's where she continued to reside for over 80 years. Sandra lived a full life devoted to family, friends, and her church.

She married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Isaiah Putman who predeceased her in March of 2025. Together they raised a beautiful family. Sandra was mother to Marsha (Robert) Remick, Pamela Wright, Michael (Susan) Putman, and Stewart Putman. She adored her role as grandmother to Christopher, Jonathan, Kevan, Blake, Nick, Greg, Weston, Alex, and Sara. She was also great-grandmother to Mason, Owen, Eva, Natalia, Javier, Diego, Jiovonni, James, Addie, Aldo, Elijah, and Graceann. Sandra loved reading to her grand babies. Among her favorites were, "Pat the Bunny," "Are You My Mother," and all things Sesame Street. She took great pride in supporting all their diverse interests.

Sandra loved learning and was very active in school as editor of the newspaper, yearbook and Latin club. She went on to study nursing at Harper Hospital until Dennis was drafted to serve in the Korean War. Sandra worked several years at Burroughs Corporation in Plymouth, MI, and later, for Wayne-Westland Schools until retirement.

Sandra was a stay at home mom while raising their four children and continued to be very involved in her church and community. She served on the Wayne Historical Society, the Wayne Literary Club, and the First Congregational Church of Wayne.

Sandra loved her flower gardens and took pride in tending them. She and Dennis enjoyed traveling and trips to Florida. They had great fun at their cottage where all the family gathered on summer holidays.

We often heard her reminisce about her life on 'the farm' in Chesaning where we rarely missed a Lycka family reunion. She loved growing up with her cousins and Sandra made every effort to encourage that close extended family bond with her children.

Sandra is survived by her brother Theodore/Ted (the late Margaret) and was preceded in death by her sister Barbara (the late Gordon). Her role as sister was forever dear to her heart.

As we say good-bye to Sandra, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life filled with love, service, and the joy of everyday moments. She leaves behind a family that will miss her dearly, and friends who remember her laughter and love.
