Roy Poole of Westland, Michigan passed away August 3, 2024. He was born in Cordele, Georgia on August 28, 1935 to William Poole and Annette Rooks Poole.He was the oldest of their five children. Roy told many stories of his early years working on the farm. Although, it was a lot of work, he had a lot of fun and learned many of life's lessons there.
He joined the Army at the age of 18 with his Uncle Dee, who was just a few months older. Roy enjoyed his time in the service and shared many stories of his travels and the people he meet along the way. A favorite story for Roy to tell and for all of us to hear was how he met the love of his life, Margaret Wojciehowski. While stationed in the Soo. Roy was set up on a double date and Marge was the lucky gal. They married on June 15, 1957.
Roy was a hard worker and spent years working at Kroger Bakery. He also did house construction and carpentry after working his day job. He told of always wanting to work on heavy equipment. One day, he got the chance to apply at Edward C. Levy company. He got the job he enjoyed his many years doing something he loved.
Roy was a devoted Christian and a member of Mount Calvary Baptist church in Belleville. Over the years he served as a Sunday School teacher, visiting teacher and Deacon. He always had his Bible close and read it each day.
Roy was a loving father to his five children, Larry (Lynn) Poole, Linda (Jerry) Merritt, Carolyn (Frank) Catalano and the late Dale and Bill Poole. He enjoyed family time and keeping up with all his grandkids,Melissa (Chris) Henderson, Joe (Carrie) Hulett, Samantha (Jem) Tankersley, Amanda (Ed) Olsen, Kyle (Caitlyn) Merritt, and Jill (Matt) Wykes, He had a "gang of youngins" as he would say. Great-grandchildren Carter, Reid, Tucker and Everett Hulett, Maura and Nolan Henderson, Max Poole, Oliver Olsen, Teagan and Ellie Merritt, and Eric and Andrew Wykes will miss him dearly.
