Obituary

Roy Owen Burkhert, a cherished soul whose laughter and deep conversations enriched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, in Northville, Michigan. Born in Wayne, Michigan, on November 10, 1951, to the late Ronald Burkhert and Gladys Davison, Roy's kindhearted spirit and inquisitive mind were evident from his earliest days.

Roy's life was a symphony of love, humor, and music. His passion for music was as profound as the tunes of his favorite bands, The Beach Boys and The Beatles. With a voice that could harmonize with the best of them, Roy spread joy through his singing and his great sense of humor. His laughter was a melody that played on the heartstrings of those who knew him, and his love for his family was the chorus that defined his life.

A man of deep thought and little need for small talk, Roy valued meaningful connections and the exploration of life's grander questions. He was a conversational maestro, engaging those around him with hypothetical questions that sparked the imagination and challenged the intellect. His love for learning about the hearts and minds of others was matched only by his loyalty to those he held dear.

Roy's introverted nature did not diminish the depth of his relationships. Instead, it allowed those closest to him to appreciate the attentive and caring man he was. His children, Sara (Steve) Mikulic, Megan (Todd) Klanderud and his bonus children, David Overstreet and Ranée Caskey, knew the strength of his love and the warmth of his guidance. His grandchildren, Aidan (Amanda) MacDonald, Liam MacDonald, Wyatt Curtis, Miles Klanderud, and Isaac Klanderud, and great-grandchildren, Riley, Juniper, Eleanor, and Lucas, were the pride and joy of his life, each a testament to his enduring legacy.

Roy's life was a testament to the richness that comes not from an abundance of words, but from the depth of one's presence. His ability to listen, to ponder, and to love without reservation will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. While Roy may have considered himself a background vocalist in the grand concert of life, to his family and friends, he was always the leading voice-a voice that will continue to resonate in their hearts forever.
