Roger L.
Godreau
July 1, 1942 – January 29, 2024
Roger Ludger Godreau of Westland, MI, fondly known as "Frenchy," passed away January 29th, 2024. Roger was born on July 1st, 1942 in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada, in a large French-speaking family, the thirteenth of fourteen children. Roger worked at various jobs throughout Canada, including building skyscrapers in Toronto and working at the Nuclear Power Plant in Rolphton, Ontario. In his mid-20s, Roger moved to Michigan, where he worked for Centi-Spray and Ingersoll Rand.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel N. and Marguerite Godreau; 9 brothers and sisters, Hervé, Aurèle, Imelda, Roméo, Agathe, Ronald, Anita, O'nil, and Gaétanne. He is survived by a long list of people who loved him, including his wife, Kathleen (Monette) Godreau, son Joseph, daughter Carrie; three sisters, Alida, Phélima, and Stelle; and one brother, Raymond (Gaétan) Godreau.
To say that Roger had many friends is an HUGE understatement. He was friends with EVERYONE and greeted every person whether he knew them or not, with a smile, and wave, and a "howdy." Everyone loved him because he was caring and generous to a fault. If you needed help with anything, not matter how important or insignificant, he would drop what he was doing to immediately lend a hand.
Half of Westland knew him for his favorite hobby, woodworking. He made everything from picnic tables, lawn chairs to wishing wells, bird houses and more. Did you have a special request? Yep, he could do it. He sold everything only for the price it cost him for the materials because he simply likes building things and making people happy. In addition, he enjoyed many other things from bowling, coin-collecting, hockey (especially the Red Wings) and lucky nights at bingo… and most of all, being around people.
Beloved husband, father, brother, friend and wood-worker extraordinaire, Roger will be missed by all.
