Obituary

Robert "Bob" Glenn Smith (68) was born on July 5th, 1956, in St. Louis, Missouri and passed away surrounded by his close family on June 23rd, 2025, at University Hospital in Ann Arbor Michigan. A loving son, courageous father, caring friend, and cherished grandfather, he will be dearly missed.

Born into a large southern family, Bob shared a deep love of family gatherings and sharing memories. Growing up in the Ypsilanti/ Willow run area of Michigan, he would often travel back to Arkansas and Missouri to share the summers with his close nit group of cousins, aunts & uncles, and grandparents. Bob himself collected many adventurous friends through the Boys Club of Ypsilanti who have all kept in touch well into their golden years. It took a village to raise the incredible man we all knew, spending the summers of his youth with the various families across the nation were some of bob's most fond memories.

As youth turned into manhood, adventure called Robert to the road! Hitchhiking across the country 4 times before the age of 17 was just the beginning of a long series of unbelievable adventures! Joining the most difficult club of all- Robert Glenn Smith joined the United States Marine Corps in March of 1974. With a specialty of Amtrack and Diesel Mechanics- thus began a lifetime of love of Motors. His time in the military allowed Bob to see different parts of the globe and really test his determination.

Returning home from the Corps, he was almost unrecognizable! The Service gave him the leadership and the grit to make his dreams a possibility. Bob continued his education in mechanics attending ABC Technical in Tucson, earning a Certification in Diesel Mechanics, and attending Pima Community College obtaining certifications in Welding and Mechanics. With such magnetism, leadership and huge heart of gold, Kids, Puppies, and beautiful women would always flock to Bob. Obtaining training as a professional dancer through the Fred Astaire Dance Studios, Bob danced his way into all our hearts.

With more than a million miles under his belt, Bob was a man of the road. Motorcycles, Hotrods, Harleys, classic cars, Semi Trucks- you name it, he could drive it or fix it. His love of motors started young and never faded. He has traveled in almost every state and on most of all the roads. If you called him lost or stranded- he could get you out of there. With nearly 45 years as an over the road Semi truck driver, Bob collected story after story of his wild journey and shared them with us all.

Married and divorced three times, Bob still found a way to bring a life of happiness and stability to his children and family. He often said his happiest days were spent raising his three daughters,  Shannon, Samantha, and Sarah. Alongside his daughters, Bob also cherished his parents Fanny and Edward. The last 12 years of his life were dedicated to taking care of them.

Bob is preceded in death by his mother, Fanny Lou Markey(Murray),his two brothers Michael Smith(Rhonda) and David Smith(Judy) and his daughter and best friend Shannon Marie Smith. He is survived by his Father, Edward Glenn Smith, his Daughters Samantha Mae Smith(Michael Kozlowski) and Sarah Rose Smith (Jason Flateau) and his grandchildren Tyler Glen Hoagland, Ethan Henry Robert Malinowski, Sean Patrick Kozlowski, Dylan James Kozlowski, and Connor Michael Kozlowski.
