Rita Joyce (Oliver) Fenwick began her journey on Sunday, October 3, 1943. She was born and raised in Detroit with her sister and brothers. Rita married Edward Fenwick Jr. on November 11, 1961 and celebrated 50 years of marriage together, until his death in early 2012. They raised a son, Mark and a daughter, Karen in Westland, Michigan. Rita died Saturday, December 12, 2020, leaving behind family and friends who loved her very much. She will be missed a great deal by all who loved her. Although Rita had fought off the return of her breast cancer for two years, it was an aneurism that struck Rita on Thursday, December 10th without warning. Independent to the end, Rita still lived in the house in Westland where she and Ed raised their family. A dedicated wife and mother, Rita also worked as a church secretary, assisted at a delicatessen, and as a cook at the Hillside restaurant in Plymouth throughout her 77 years. Rita loved to travel, particularly up in the Traverse City, Michigan area, and visit local casinos. She enjoyed video poker the most, so much so, that her family introduced her to video poker on the iPad this past year to help entertain her during the pandemic. Rita was smart, loved her family deeply, remembered important dates, always worked hard to look her best no matter the occasion, and made the best deviled eggs around. She was proud of her Polish heritage and shared her love of pierogi with her family, particularly her two grandchildren who adored her. Rita is survived by Son, Mark (Peggy) Fenwick; Daughter, Karen (Harvey) Frederick; Two Grandchildren, Nicole (James) Dietz, Ryan Fenwick; Brother, Gerry Oliver; Brother-in-law, Jim Hardin; Several nieces and nephews and dear friends; and a great-grandchild due in May, 2021. Rita is preceded in death by husband, Edward Fenwick Jr.; Brother, Bob Oliver; Sister, Barbara Hardin; Sister-in-law Gay Oliver; her Parents, Genevieve and Ford Oliver; and several family pets including the most recently lost, her beloved Maggie.
