Richard P. Ruhland, known affectionately as Rick by his friends and family, passed away on September 1, 2024, at his cottage in Pinckney, Michigan. Born on September 29, 1950, in Denver, Colorado, Rick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many.
Rick's life was one of dedication and service, both professionally and personally. He retired as an engineer with General Motors, where he contributed his expertise and passion for innovation for over 30 years. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the proud owner of All American Pet Resort Canton, where he brought joy and care to countless pets and their owners.
A man of profound integrity and commitment, Rick was deeply involved in various associations throughout his life. He was a respected past Past Master of Wayne Lodge #112 F. & A.M., where he served as the Past Grand Master of Michigan in 2005. His dedication to Freemasonry was further exemplified by his attainment of the 33rd Degree Mason. Rick's involvement extended to the York Rite, Royal Arch Mason, Knights Templar, Commandery, Scottish Rite, and he was also a proud Shriner. His support for youth organizations was unwavering, as he was an active member of the DeMolay, Rainbow Girls, and Eastern Star.
In addition to his professional and fraternal commitments, Rick served his community as a member on the Garden City Planning Commission and as an officer of the Cedar Beach Association. He was a man who believed in giving back and making a difference in the lives of others.
Rick's love for life was evident in his many interests. He was an ardent supporter of Michigan Football, embodying the team spirit and camaraderie that the sport fosters. An outdoorsman at heart, he found peace and relaxation in fishing, golfing, and pontooning on Cordley Lake. Rick's adventurous side shone through his traveling the world with his wife as well as his passion for motorcycles, a hobby that brought him great joy and freedom.
Family was the cornerstone of Rick's life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia F. Ruhland, who stood by his side in love and partnership for 52 years. His legacy continues through his daughter, Jessica (Sean) Beacome, son, Richard E. (Sara) Ruhland, and his cherished grandchildren, Clare, Benjamin, Olivia, and Nash. His sisters, Kathy (Rich) Kresge and Carrie (Lon) Faison, and brother Rob Ruhland will fondly remember their brother's gentle and loving nature.
Rick will be remembered as a selfless individual who approached life with a gentle touch and a loving heart. His presence was a source of comfort and strength to those around him, and his actions reflected the kindness and generosity he embodied.
As we reflect on Rick's life, we are reminded of the indelible impact he had on his family, friends, and community. His memory will be carried forward in the hearts of those who knew him and in the countless lives he touched with his warmth and compassion.
Rick's journey through life was marked by his commitment to others, his unwavering support for his loved ones, and his ability to bring joy and laughter to any occasion.
