Richard "Ricco"
Ciaramitaro
August 21, 1946 – July 20, 2025
Richard Allen Ciaramitaro, known affectionately as Ricco by his friends and family, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, in Westland, Michigan. Born on August 21, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, Ricco's life was marked by his unwavering spirit, his dedication to his country, and the love he shared with his family.
Ricco was the beloved husband of Janice Ciaramitaro, whom he married on March 1, 2019, after a charming encounter at a Rolling Thunder Function. Their love story was a testament to his warm heart and charismatic soul. He was a devoted father to Tracie (Jason) Crawford and James Ciaramitaro, and a cherished bonus father to Arnold (Rebecca) Spittler and Katheryne (Philip) Gipson. Ricco's joy was multiplied by his grandsons, Scott and Nate Crawford, and his bonus grandchildren, Chelsey Elizabeth, Nate (Madeline) Gipson, Sarah Gipson, Ashley Marie, Jamie Lee, Samantha Rose, and Amanda (Michael) Regan, as well as his bonus great-grandchildren, Raven Marie, Esther Marie, Tobias John, Patrick John, Layla Mae, Vivian Renee, and Elijah.
The son of the late Carlo and Owena Ciaramitaro, Ricco was the youngest sibling to Annie, Chuck, Al, Mary, and Rosie, all of whom predeceased him. His extended family of nieces and nephews will remember him as a pillar of strength and a source of laughter and wisdom.
Ricco was a proud Marine veteran, living by the ethos "Once a Marine, always a Marine." His service to his country was a cornerstone of his identity, and his commitment to his fellow veterans was unwavering. He served as the former quartermaster of his Romanowski VFW post before transferring to VFW Post 528 in Plymouth. Ricco found great fulfillment in giving back to his veteran brothers and sisters.
Following his retirement, Ricco found joy in his work as a security guard at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. His knowledge of the museum was unparalleled, and he delighted in sharing the history and stories behind each exhibit.
Ricco's Christian faith was an important aspect of his life, guiding him in his actions and interactions with others. He was a man who loved deeply and lived fully. His interests were varied and rich; he was an avid motorcyclist, an enthusiastic fisherman and deer hunter, and a culinary aficionado. His quiche and spice balls were legendary, and his cooking sessions with his friend Roger, especially when they catered events together, were filled with joy and camaraderie.
Known for his good-natured aversion to drama, Ricco was a beacon of positivity. His humor brought light to any room, and his ability to love with his whole heart made him a cherished presence in the lives of all who knew him. Ricco wore many hats in his family and veteran community, each one with honor and distinction.
Richard Allen Ciaramitaro's legacy is one of service, love, and laughter. He was a good guy, a fantastic cook, a dedicated veteran, and above all, a man who loved with his whole heart. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
