Obituary

Patricia Anne Riley, a cherished pillar of her community and a beacon of joy to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, at the age of 87 in Westland, Michigan. Born on May 16, 1937, in McMillan, Michigan, Patricia's life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and the enduring strength of family.

Patricia grew up in the loving arms of her parents, the late Kenneth and Mabel Bowen. She shared her childhood with her siblings, the late Bill Bowen and the late Mary Suttle, in Detroit. Her childhood instilled in her a strong sense of family-bond, which she carried with her throughout life.

Pat met the love of her life, Eddie Riley, and together they built a life rich in love and laughter. Although Eddie preceded her in death, their love story continued to inspire their family and friends. She was a devoted mom to her children, Sheila (Bob) Urick, Sherry Scherbarth, and Chris (Tara) Riley. Her role as a mom was one she cherished deeply, and she instilled in her children the importance of kindness, humor, and resilience.

Her love multiplied with the arrival of each grandchild, and she became the adored gramma to Becky (Jeremy) Cummings, Dayna Sensaboy, Mike (Lauren) Scherbarth, Sandy (Shane Bailey) Scherbarth, Layla Pinard, and the late Marley and Lola Pinard. Patricia's legacy continued to blossom as she became a great gramma to Katie (Cole) Kirkland, Hagen Cummings, Kelsey Sensaboy, Cooper Sensaboy, Carson Sensaboy, Paislee Scherbarth, and Easton Scherbarth, and Ashlynn Bailey. She shared a special bond with each of her family members, including Heather (Jeremy) Pinard, who held a special place in her heart, and filled her moments with joy, guidance, and an abundance of love.

Patricia's working years were spent as a dedicated mail carrier for the US Postal Service, where she was known for her reliability and warm smile. Her colleagues became an extended family, and she often shared stories of her routes and the people she met along the way.

A woman of many interests, Patricia had a zest for life that was contagious. She loved to play cards, a pastime that brought her laughter and companionship. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel, with Alaska holding a special place in her heart. Patricia's sense of humor was legendary; she could light up a room and lift spirits with her wit and gentle teasing.

Her involvement with the Detroit Association of the Deaf and the Metro Detroit Deaf Senior Citizens reflected her commitment to community and her desire to serve others. As a lifetime member, she forged lasting friendships and made significant contributions to the organizations.

Patricia will be remembered as a loving, funny, and gentle soul. Her presence was a comfort, her laughter a gift, and her gentle spirit a guiding light. She navigated life's challenges with grace and emerged with a smile, always ready to offer a kind word or a playful joke.

Her family will forever cherish the memories and the immeasurable love she bestowed upon them. Patricia's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the gentle touch of a woman who made the world a better place simply by being in it.

As we bid farewell to Patricia Anne Riley, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a heart that generously loved. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her, and her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Patricia's journey through life was a testament to the joy that can be found in everyday moments and the enduring power of love. She will be deeply missed, but her light will continue to shine in the lives of those she touched.
