Obituary

Nettie Hunter (Cottingham) was born on April 8, 1931 in Blocton, Alabama.  She transitioned to her eternal home on August 16, 2022 at the age of 91 in Westland, Michigan.  Assuredly, the angels rejoiced at the arrival of their faithful servant.

Nettie accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior at the early age of six and never turned back. Her faith walk was characterized by unfaltering obedience to the Scripture and trust in God. She dedicated over 20 years as a pastor of a Christian church in Georgia, where she shared and spread the Word of the Lord to all she encountered.  Nettie possessed a true gift of reaching those with the greatest need; she found joy in counseling all who crossed her path to anchor themselves in the love of God to sustain the circumstances of life.

Beyond ministry, Nettie's life also exemplified servant leadership. She was a kind and nurturing foster mom, taking in multiple children and caring for them selflessly. She also served as a caretaker to a host of beloved patients in her community. While serving in this capacity, she operated with the personal mantra: "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, or the small act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around." Nettie was generous in sharing all of her gifts, including her abundance of knowledge and wisdom.  Her angelic smile and passion for the Lord will be deeply missed.

Nettie is survived by three sons, Renardo Hunter, Thomas Hunter (Inger), Cornelius Hunter (Tonye); three daughters, Raquel Hunter, Mavis Cowan (Clay), Anna Hunter; seventeen grandchildren: Arissa, Jerrell (Gabriela), Nikidra (Kevin), Loveian, Clayton J, Darnell T(Vicki), Tayler, Gabriella, Lauren, Caleb, Robert, LaTea, Justin, Arianna, Ashira, Amariah, and Anniah; eleven great-grandchildren: Scarlet, Jayden, Bella, Jaxin, Josiah, Jakob, Graciela, NaTavion, NaTarius, Sophia, and Connor; one great great-grandchild, Saniyah J. She is preceded in death by loving husband, Thomas L. Hunter; son, Michael Hunter; father, Henry Cottingham, mother, Anna Cottingham; and 14 siblings.   Her beloved village of family and friends are forever grateful for the example of this life lived for the glory of God

"I am the resurrection and the life, he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die." (John 11:25-26)

The interment service will take place on August 29, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgen Dr. Canton, GA 30114.
