Obituary

Michael Francis Harris, a beacon of resilience and joy, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, at the age of 67. Born on April 14, 1957, in Detroit, Michigan, Michael's life was a testament to the strength and compassion that defined him.

The son of the late Robert Edward Harris and the late Agnes Theresa Monaghan, Michael grew up in a loving home alongside his sisters, the late Patricia Harris, the late Kathleen Cheston, Mary Harris, and Eileen Harris. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he was a cherished uncle to his niece, Meagan Cheston.

Michael's pursuit of knowledge led him back to school as an adult, where he earned his bachelor's degree, exemplifying his belief in lifelong learning. His professional life was marked by his tenure as the board president of the Michigan Paralyzed Veterans of America, reflecting his unwavering commitment to service. He also played an active role in his community through his involvement with the Nankin Township transit and the Senior Alliance.

A proud veteran, Michael's military background was not only a source of personal pride but also a driving force in his advocacy work. Following a life-altering accident, he channeled his experience into lobbying for veterans, the handicapped, and seniors, dedicating his life to the well-being of others. His service-minded spirit was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Michael's zest for life was evident in his love for sports. He was an ardent supporter of the Detroit Red Wings, the Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Tigers, and he enjoyed watching football, hockey, golf, tennis, and soccer. His laughter was infectious, and his presence at a game was always a source of joy for those around him.

Beyond his advocacy and sports enthusiasm, Michael was known for his unwavering dedication to his family. He was the pillar who always took care of his sisters and family members with a loving and kind heart.

His bonds of brotherhood extended to his fellow marines, especially his marine brother Boot. Together, they shared adventures on cruises and annual reunions, forging memories that will be cherished forever.

Michael Harris's legacy is one of love, service, and laughter. He lived a life that was full and meaningful, touching the lives of many with his generosity and warmth. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he loved and served.
