With heavy hearts and immense gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Mary Ann Kocsis, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, who left us peacefully from her home in Westland, Michigan, on May 17, 2026. Born on November 25, 1941, in Highland Park, Michigan, Mary Ann was a vibrant spirit whose love and warmth touched everyone who crossed her path.
Mary Ann met her soulmate, Joseph Kocsis, in the fourth grade. Their love blossomed, and they married on August 12, 1961, embarking on a journey filled with laughter, joy, and unwavering support for one another. Together, they created a beautiful family, raising their daughter Victoria and son Christopher. Mary Ann was truly the heart of the Kocsis family, and after Joseph's passing in 2024, her love and memories of their life together remained ever strong.
For 40 years, Mary Ann dedicated her life to education as a paraprofessional at Wayne-Westland School, where she exemplified compassion and kindness. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom where she served as a Girl Scout leader for over 20 years. As such, she became a trusted confidante and mother figure to countless children, embodying the spirit of caring that defined her life.
A long-standing member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church since 1962, Mary Ann was affectionately known as "Sister Mary Ann" Her commitment to the church was evident through her many roles, including teaching catechism for numerous years and founding 'The Red Wagon'-a heartfelt initiative that provided books and essential items to children in the Wayne-Westland area.
Mary Ann was an avid reader, immersing herself in stories, and her bright blue eyes sparkled with joy as she shared her love for literature. Always smiling and radiating positivity, she formed lasting bonds with friends and family, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Mary Ann is survived by her beloved children, Victoria (Steve Caruso) and Christopher (Lori), grandchildren, Kevin (Emily Hilger) Kocsis and Adam (Shannon) Kocsis, great grandchildren, Aidan, Aylsia, Evelyn, Lydia, Jax, Henry, and Levi, and brother David (Sylvia) Prieskorn, who will continue to honor her legacy of love and kindness.
As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, we take comfort in knowing that Mary Ann Kocsis lives on in our hearts, a shining example of love, devotion, and joy.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Kocsis, and parents, Otto and Eleanor Prieskorn.
