Obituary

Marlene Lenore (née Mariano, Coughanour) Pedlow

Marlene passed away peacefully on November 17, 2023 in Spring Hill, Florida joining her parents, Fred and Pauline Mariano; brother, Fred Jr., ; son, Keith Coughanour; husband of 35 years Howard Coughanour; and husband of 29 years Edward Pedlow.

Marlene was born on November 28, 1933 to Fred and Pauline Mariano of Jacob Creek, Pennsylvania. Marlene lived a long and active life.

After marrying Howard, the couple moved to the Detroit area with their three children, Debbie, Keith and Paul. They were very active in their church and community groups. Marlene had various jobs before starting a 35 year career with the Wayne Westland Community School District as a secretary, working at Wayne Memorial High School and Stevenson Jr. High and subsequently the Board Office where she was the Executive Secretary to at least four Superintendents, a position she and her family were very proud of.

Marlene loved college football, especially University of Michigan. For many, many years Marlene and Howard were season ticket holders and enjoyed some serious tailgating with friends and family. They had bought a second home in Club Wildwood, in Hudson Florida where they prepared for retirement however; life had other plans for Marlene. After the sudden death of her first love, Marlene showed her strength to her family as she continued being active with the church and community, working for the schools and vacationing in Florida.

Marlene met Ed Pedlow through a church group. After getting married they enjoyed traveling to various places around the world and Saturday night dances with friends. They were considered snowbirds for 25 years before moving full time to Spring Hill, Florida in 2019. Over the years in Florida, Marlene enjoyed playing golf, going to Timber Pine concerts and plays, volunteering for a couple PGA golf events was a highlight conversation as well as, playing mahjong and bunko with her neighbors.

In addition to Michigan football, Marlene also loved watching Detroit Tigers baseball. She was an avid reader and she enjoyed going out to eat and hosting neighborhood parties. Marlene loved spending time with family and friends. More than anything she enjoyed the many family dinners that were shared with her children and grandchildren, for all the holidays and birthdays.

Marlene will be deeply missed by her and Howard's children, Debbie (Joe) Docusen and Paul (Phyllis) Coughanour. Grandchildren, Dana (Lynda ) Docusen, Jennifer (Jim) McGraw, Windy (Nick) Casteel, Kellie (Warren) Kraus and 11 great grandchildren, Tyler (Rob), Evan, Chloe, Mackenzie, AJ, Ethan, Jack, Madi, Baily, Oliver and Alex (Travis). As well as nieces and nephews; she will also be missed by the entire Pedlow family including her stepsons, Steven (Linda) Pedlow, Scott (Rowaa) Pedlow, David (Pam) Pedlow, and step grandchildren Kyle and Kristin.

Sweet memories will be sparked by the smallest of things; the smell of Vicks (because it cures everything), the smell of Pine Sol (because it cleans everything). The smell and comfort of a fireplace burning and the sound of easy listening music playing softly in the morning will always make us smile and think of you. We will miss the phone calls that would ask "Do you have fresh coffee made?" which meant you were on your way over to visit.

Rest peacefully Mom/Grandma/MeMaw… You did good!!
