Louis James Fischer, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024, in Canton, MI. Born on September 26, 1938, in Ann Arbor, MI, Louis lived a full and honorable life.
Louis is survived by his loving wife, Mabel Fischer, and their children: Mike (Karen) Fischer Sr., Debra (the late Paul) Dest, Edward Fischer, and Gary (Heather) Fischer. He was a proud grandfather to Mike Jr., Kevin, Paul, Garret, Patrick, Matthew, Katie, Jenny, Steph, Jackie, Rebekah, Kyla, and Jaina, and he delighted in the joys of his 18 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Charlotte Fischer, his brother Clarence Fischer, Louis leaves behind his sister, Shirley Dunn.
Louis served his country as a Corporal in the Marine Corps from October 30, 1956, to October 29, 1958. He continued his life of service as a stationary engineer for the county government, where he was respected for his dedication and work ethic.
A man of integrity and strength, Louis lived by the words of Winston Churchill: "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." His legacy is one of love, service, and the quiet strength that supported his family and community. Louis will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know him.
