Lois Z.
Tank
August 21, 1926 – January 17, 2025
Zella Lois Tank, known affectionately as Lois by her friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, in Gaylord, Michigan, at the age of 98. Born on August 21, 1926, in West Point, Illinois, Lois was a beacon of warmth and generosity throughout her life, touching the hearts of those around her with her compassionate spirit.
Lois was the beloved daughter of the late Earl and Eva Buffington and grew up with her siblings, Betty and Jimmy, both of whom predeceased her. In 1944, she married Joseph Stachowski, with whom she shared a loving and enduring relationship until their divorce in 1967. The couple maintained a cordial and respectful friendship until Joseph's passing in 1995. Their legacy continued through their children: Joseph (Judy) Stachowski, Walter (Rose) Stachowski, Robin (Gregg) Shoner, and the late Gary, Ronald, Jay, and David Stachowski. Lois was a cherished grandmother to thirteen grandchildren, a great-grandmother to twenty-four, and a great-great-grandmother to five, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
Lois's life was a tapestry of love and service, woven with the threads of her many passions. She had an extraordinary ability to connect with people, offering her help without hesitation and enriching the lives of those she encountered. Her culinary skills were legendary, especially her knack for baking and cooking, which she often showcased by preparing hearty meals for her sons and their friends during hunting trips up north.
A woman of many talents, Lois was an accomplished seamstress, sewing clothes and costumes for her children, a craft that showcased her creativity and attention to detail. Her love for travel took her to many places, and she relished the opportunity to experience new cultures and sights. Lois's zest for life was evident in her love for music and entertainment, often attending concerts, particularly enjoying the Hoedown.
Lois was known for her feisty nature, a trait that served her well in her favorite pastimes. She was an avid bingo player, quick and sharp, often outpacing others with her speed and skill. The casino was another venue where she enjoyed playing the slots, embracing the thrill of the game with her characteristic liveliness.
Above all, Lois was a loving and generous soul, always ready to lend a hand or an ear to those in need. Her ability to color the world with joy through her crafts and her presence was a gift to all who knew her. She will be remembered for the love she gave so freely and the compassionate way she lived her life.
Lois's passing marks the end of an era but her legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories of her love, laughter, and the selfless way she cared for those around her. Lois Tank was truly a remarkable woman, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the fortune of knowing her.
As the matriarch of the Stachowski family, Lois's guiding light and love will be missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide her family for generations to come. The world was indeed a brighter place with Lois in it, and her memory will be treasured forever.
