Linda Jean
Porter
July 26, 1949 – October 8, 2024
Linda Jean Porter, a spirited soul who mastered the art of grumpiness with a generous heart, embarked on her final mystery-solving adventure on October 8, 2024. Born on July 26, 1949, in the bustling town of Garden City, Michigan, Linda was renowned for her sharp wit, a trait she may have picked up while navigating the choppy waters of the Navy before anchoring herself at the IRS, where she retired after years of dedicated service.
Linda's life was a quilt of many patterns, stitched together with love, laughter, and the occasional grumble. Her family was the thread that held it all together. She was preceded in passing by her parents, Donald and Thelma Porter, who no doubt welcomed her with open arms and a heavenly eye-roll at their daughter's timely sarcasm. Linda's legacy lives on through her daughter, Stacy (Patrick) Thomas, and her beloved grandchildren, Brooke, Paige, Patrick James, and Meaghan, who were the apples of her eye and the occasional victims of her playful grumpiness.
Her siblings, Jim (Joan) Porter, Colleen (the late Pat) Dooley, Jackie Porter, and Dawn Stevens, will miss her deeply, as will her adoring nieces and nephews, Jason, Julian, Jamie, and Max. They all knew that beneath her "get off my lawn" exterior beat the heart of a woman who would do anything for her family.
Linda was a woman of many interests, from her crafty hands that could quilt and crochet wonders, to her love of the mystery Hallmark channel, where she was the unsung detective who always guessed whodunit before the second commercial break. Her IRS family knew her as the life of the party, even if she was the first to tell you when the party was over.
A connoisseur of dining out, Linda relished a good meal with even better company, often treating her friends and family because her love language was gift-giving. She was the Santa Claus of every season, showering those around her with presents when they least expected it. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she often expressed her affection through meticulously chosen gifts, each with a story or a smirk.
Despite her love for people, Linda also cherished her alone time, which she defended fiercely against any well-meaning invaders. It was during these moments of solitude that she recharged, ready to face the world with her trademark blend of benevolence and bluntness.
Linda was the personification of generosity, a quality that she wore as comfortably as her favorite crochet shawl. Her grumpy exterior was simply her unique way of showing she cared, a paradox that made her all the more endearing to those who were lucky enough to know her.
As we bid farewell to Linda Jean Porter, we celebrate a life lived with gusto, a heart given freely, and a sense of humor that could lighten even the darkest of days. She was a one-of-a-kind woman who left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her, proving that even the grumpiest among us can also be the most generous. Linda, may you find the best seat in the house as you watch over us, probably shaking your head and chuckling at our antics. We'll miss you, but we know you've left us with enough memories and mystery-solving tips to last a lifetime.
