Lawrence Albert
Sabourin
December 12, 1948 – April 22, 2025
Lawrence Albert Sabourin, known to all as Larry, was the kind of guy who could light up a room with his quick wit and never failed to leave you with a bellyache from laughter. Born on December 12, 1948, in Wayne, Michigan, Larry embarked on his final journey on April 22, 2025, in Dearborn, Michigan, leaving behind a legacy of joy, love, and the kind of stories that will be retold at family gatherings for generations to come.
Larry's life was a masterclass in love and humor. At a tender age, he met the love of his life, Patti, and immediately knew she was the one. He wasn't shy about it either; he marched straight home and declared to his mother, "I met the girl I'm going to marry." True to his word, he and Patti tied the knot on March 19, 1971, and embarked on a 54-year adventure that was filled with laughter, love, and the kind of partnership that everyone envied.
As a devoted husband to Patti, an amazing father to Michelle (Jim) and Brent (Kathy), and a super supportive grandfather to Kyle and Sarah, Larry was the cornerstone of his family. He was the kind of man who made fatherhood look like the world's coolest gig. His beloved dog, Harley, often referred to as his "favorite child," was his faithful companion through thick and thin.
Larry was a proud Marine, a Vietnam veteran whose devotion to his country was matched only by his dedication to his family. His easygoing nature belied the strength and courage he carried within him, a true testament to the saying that still waters run deep.
With a heart as generous as his, Larry never met a person he didn't like and never uttered a complaint. He was the guy who could find humor in any situation, and his ability to tell a joke was second to none. His intelligence shone through in every aspect of his life, especially in his love for reading and his uncanny ability to navigate the roads. Larry was a "human GPS" before it was cool, always knowing exactly how to get anywhere.
A simple man with sophisticated charm, Larry was well-loved by many. His friends were numerous and his influence widespread. He was the kind of guy who never spent money on himself, but he took immense pleasure in the joy of his wife and grandkids spending it-apparently, their happiness was the best investment he could make.
Larry's passion for life extended to his interests; he was a whiz at computer games, which he enjoyed in his downtime. It was one of the many ways he stayed young at heart and kept his reflexes as sharp as his mind.
He leaves behind a family tree that is as strong as it is sprawling, including his siblings Leona, the late Pat, Ronnie (Kim), Paul (the late Dolly), and a brigade of in-laws: Greg, Doug, Debbie (Rob), Ronnie, Jerry (Bina), and the late Larry Reid. Not to mention a host of nieces and nephews who all thought they were his favorite.
To sum up Larry in a few words is a near-impossible task, but if one were to try, 'generous,' 'funny,' and 'kind' would be at the top of the list. His life was a testament to the power of positivity, and the impact of his humor and heart will echo in the lives of those who knew him.
As we bid farewell to Larry, we do so with a smile, knowing that heaven has gained a comedian, a storyteller, and a navigator supreme. His legacy will not be marked by the somber notes of a traditional obituary but by the laughter and love that he left behind. Larry Sabourin, you were one of a kind, and you will be dearly missed.
