May 4, 1958 – December 17, 2024
Lawrence Vincent Barbour, affectionately known as Larry to his friends and family, passed away on December 17, 2024, in Northville, Michigan, at the age of 66. Born on May 4, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan, Larry was a beacon of joy and generosity to all who knew him.
Larry was the beloved son of the late John and Lucille Barbour. He was a cherished father to Shannon (Derek) McClelland and Michael Barbour, and a doting grandfather to Myles. His legacy of love and laughter lives on through his siblings: Beverly (Roger) Preville, Carol (Larry) Brady, Rick Barbour, Jim (Lynn) Barbour, Denise (Paul) Regoni, John (Cherie) Barbour, and he was preceded in death by his siblings Mike Barbour, Mark Barbour, Mary Ganci, and Kevin Barbour. Larry's life was enriched by his many nieces and nephews and the special bond with Vickie Barbour, the mother of his children.
An alumnus of Eastern Michigan University, Larry earned his bachelor's degree in business, which served him well throughout his impressive 36-year career as a driver for Frito Lay. His dedication to his work was matched only by his commitment to his family and his passions.
Larry's love for the Detroit Lions and the University of Michigan Wolverines football teams was unparalleled. He found joy in the camaraderie and spirit of the games, a testament to his own team-oriented nature. Larry was also an active sportsman, enjoying kickball, baseball, and bowling.
Known as "The Mayor of Campy D," Larry was a proud member of the council and the heart of the family's cherished tradition of vacationing at Camp Dearborn. His passion for ensuring everyone was taken care of was evident in the way he managed every detail, making each gathering unforgettable. Larry's giving nature was also seen in his love for playing euchre and other card games, where he was both a fierce competitor and a gracious host.
Larry's enthusiasm for life extended to his hobbies, which included being an avid player of Keno and scratch-offs. His excitement upon winning, no matter how big or small the prize, was contagious, and he celebrated each victory with his signature charm and humor.
Above all, Larry was a loving, passionate, and selfless man. His ability to give without expecting anything in return was a hallmark of his character. He approached everything he did with a full heart.
Larry's presence was a gift to those around him, and his absence will be deeply felt by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. His laughter, his warmth, and his unwavering spirit will be remembered and cherished forever.
