Obituary

Kelly Marie Hatfield, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend passed away peacefully on Friday, August 19, 2022.  For 20 years she bravely battled health complications from Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in 2002 and a bone marrow transplant in 2005.

Kelly, 42, was born on May 22, 1980, in Wayne, Michigan, to her parents Kathy and David Hatfield. She is survived by her parents, sister Amy Abernathy (Amy's husband Carlton and sons Zachary and Alex Abernathy) of Tomball, Texas, as well as her beloved dog, Bella. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Audrey & Ernest Hatfield, Dan & Betty Neal and Aunt Janice Byars.

She truly enjoyed her life up north in Hubbard Lake, Michigan, at her beautiful home surrounded by trees, pond, wildlife, and birds. This setting provided inspiration for her artwork and also a sense of peace.

Kelly was an accomplished artist and enjoyed art from a very early age. Whether it was painting, drawing, DIY projects, or crafting, her art was always so amazing. She took after her talented grandmother, Audrey, and they would often paint together. Kelly painted art and wall murals for family and friends that are so beautiful and treasured. She has three pieces of art at the University of Michigan hospitals. A painting of Grogu (baby Yoda) and a unicorn is on the ceiling in the Rehab Department, as well as a ceramic tile painting of an angel at Mott Children's Hospital. She has also painted the rock for Saline's Celtic Festival.

Kelly was a passionate animal lover and advocate. She volunteered at the Humane Society of Huron Valley and was skilled at training and communicating with her dogs. She had many pets and three special dogs throughout her life, Abbey, Nikka and her current dog Bella.

Unicorns were Kelly's spirit animal! In June, Kelly went on a girl's getaway that was eventually known as the "Unicorn Squad" week.  Why unicorns you may ask? I think Kelly would agree with the "Go Sketch" website ( workshops for young artists ) which says, "… Unicorns represent goodness, happiness and peace but they also symbolize the hope for all the stardust covered dreams we long for in our lives. If we believe in unicorns, then anything is possible! "

Kelly will be profoundly missed by her family and friends. Kelly was an angel, warrior, hero and comedian.  She had a fierce sense of humor, was light hearted and could find the lighter and brighter side in any situation. Kelly was a loyal, loving and steadfast friend to many.

Kelly's family invites family and friends to celebrate her life at the visitation on Thursday, August 25 th from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and funeral service on Friday, August 26 th at 10:00 a.m. at the Uht Funeral Home at 35400 Glenwood Rd., Westland, MI
