Obituary

Kathryn Marie Sprutte, born on May 5, 1935, an incredible woman whose life was filled with passion, creativity, and warmth, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Dearborn, Michigan, Kathryn was the youngest child of Joseph Arthur Sisson and Lenore Hontas. She grew up with her siblings, Edward (Claire) Sisson and Charles (Elizabeth) Sisson, and later was married to her high school sweetheart, Earl Sprutte, who have all since predeceased her.

Kathryn received her education in Dearborn, where she graduated from Lowrey High School in 1954. Shortly after, she started working at her local pharmacy, and as time passed would work in various roles in the area like Lawson's, the milk store around the corner, or Sears for several years. She eventually ended up retiring from working in hotel laundry services in the Detroit area at the end of her working career.

A woman of many eclectic interests who always had such spunky energy, Kathryn's life was a celebration of artistic expression. Whether knitting, crocheting, sewing, painting, woodworking, or upholstering, she poured herself into her crafts. Her home was always alive with the spirit of Halloween and Christmas, her love for these holidays evident in the elaborate decorations she lovingly crafted.

Kathryn was a proud member of the Red Hat Society, where she made many long-lasting friendships. Known for her witty nature, she embraced life with enthusiasm. Her love for music, fun, and staying active was well-known, seeing as she line-danced, square-danced, and roller-skated well into her later years. She was an avid coffee drinker, flower lover, and from basset hounds to poodles, always had a furry friend by her side no matter the stage of life she was living.

Kathryn was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves behind her loving children, Ronald Sprutte, Leah (Micky) Smith, and Jeffrey Sprutte; her cherished grandchildren, Todd (Allison) Smith, Kristy Sprutte, Lucas Sprutte, Caleb Sprutte, Ryan Sprutte, and Asha Smith; and her adored great-grandchildren, Emma and Jessie. She made sure that her family knew that they were safe, loved, and well cared for. She is also missed by her best furry friends, Josie and Black Jack

Kathryn's legacy is one of generosity, humor, and unique style. Her spirit will continue to inspire, and her love will live on in the hearts of those she touched. Details of a private memorial service will be shared with friends and family in the coming weeks.
