Joshua David
Thurmond
March 22, 1988 – December 9, 2022
Joshua Thurmond was born on March 22, 1988 in Wayne, Michigan. He passed away on December 9, 2022 at the age of 34 in Westland, Michigan.
Joshua loved to travel. He had been to many places that he loved throughout his life, but most notably to Poland twice and Hawaii on multiple occasions. He loved going to sporting events, especially the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings games. He enjoyed playing video games and going to concerts with his friends. Joshua loved trying new food and restaurants, often placing a GrubHub order to be delivered for his midnight snack. He loved playing cards with his family and playing games online as he was able. He enjoyed listening to Christian music and joined the Bible quiz team through his church.
Joshua's faith in God was what carried him through his life and stood out to all who knew him. Joshua had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and was eager for others to know of the grace Jesus offers us all. Joshua would be described by others as strong, courageous, optimistic, fun, and having a great sense of humor. He was kind, caring and always quick to offer encouragement to others. He demonstrated a fighting spirit that never ceased to amaze his doctors, family and friends. Although all of these great adjectives depict Joshua's personality, the one trait that drove his parents crazy was his procrastination. He said himself, "I work best under pressure" and that is exactly what he did without a worry in his mind.
Joshua is survived by parents, David Paul Thurmond and Carol Lynn Thurmond; grandmother, Judy Thurmond; aunts and uncles, Mark (Delia) Thurmond, Dean (Ella) Weltin, Bert (Janet) Soper, and Dan Peter; and many first and second cousins. He also leaves behind his beloved faithful companion, his dog Snickers. He is preceded in death by sister, Sarah Marie Thurmond; grandfather, Thomas Dean Thurmond; grandparents, Melvin and Grace Peter; and great grandparents Ward and Evelyn Williams.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to DEBRA, Kisses for Katie, or Make-a-Wish.
If you are attending the visitation, the family invites you to bring your favorite picture of Joshua to display on a memory wall.
The family will be hosting a luncheon following the celebration of life for guests to attend.
