Joseph Samuel
Jackson
August 15, 1940 – February 15, 2025
Joseph Samuel Jackson, known affectionately as Joe to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025, in Garden City, Michigan, at the age of 84. Born on August 15, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, Joe was the son of the late Charles and Vivian Jackson and brother to the late Barbara Bardell. His life was marked by his unwavering devotion to his family, his service to his country, and his passion for life's simple pleasures.
Joe was a proud veteran of the US Air Force, where he served his country with honor and dedication. After his military service, he continued to apply his strong work ethic at Ford Motor Co. as a pipe fitter for many years and worked for the City of Westland DPW fixing water main breaks. His commitment to his work was only surpassed by his commitment to his family and friends.
Family was the cornerstone of Joe's life. He is survived by his children, Jeniece (Mike) Kobylarek, Jennifer (Darryl) Smarsh, Joe (Kim) Jackson, and Justin (Tamara) Jackson. Joe was a cherished grandfather to Leeanne (Eric), Michael (Angela), Heather (Tommy), Christopher, Monica (Garrett), Austin (Brianna), Haylee, Connor, Danielle, Jarred, and Brooke. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Makenna, Cora, Braham, Walden, Harmony, Rylee, Lincoln, Ellianna, and Oliver. Joe also leaves behind his ex-wife, but forever friend, Jeranne Jackson, who shared many of life's adventures with him.
An adventurous soul, Joe found joy in the great outdoors. He was an avid boater and snowmobiler, embracing the thrill of both water and winter sports. His hands were skilled and could breathe new life into anything that required fixing. One of his proudest achievements was restoring a '58 Chevy, a project that combined his love for cars with his remarkable handyman abilities. Joe enjoyed showcasing his automotive treasure at old car shows, sharing his passion and craftsmanship with fellow enthusiasts.
Joe's love for lake life was infectious. He was the proud owner of a cottage on Houghton Lake, which became a family haven filled with laughter, campfires, and cherished memories. It was not uncommon for him to call up family members spontaneously, asking them to pack a bag and head to the lake for an impromptu getaway. This sanctuary remains in the family, a testament to Joe's dedication to creating a space where his loved ones could come together and enjoy each other's company.
Feeding squirrels, riding his motorcycle, and enjoying the serenity of nature were among Joe's simple pleasures. He was a man who found happiness in the everyday and inspired those around him to do the same. His love for his family was unparalleled, and he often went out of his way to ensure they knew they were his greatest treasure.
Joe was a man of many talents and interests, but above all, he was loving, adventurous, and handy. These words not only describe him but also serve as a guide for those he has left behind. His spirit and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Joseph Samuel Jackson's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and a zest for adventure. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we take solace in the memories he has given us and the impact he has made on our lives. Joe's story is one of a life well-lived and well-loved, and he will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
