Obituary

John Izak Jr. was born on January 23, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan to John and Ann Izak.  John passed away on May 30, 2022 at the age of 86 in Wyandotte, Michigan.

His youth was spent riding street cars to the old Tigers Stadium and shopping with his mother at Hudson's.  John was raised with his four sisters: Nancy, Ann, Elaine, and Susan in Detroit.  John was a proud graduate of Pershing High School class of 1953-- go Dough Boys!  Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Army at the end of the Korean War where he served as a paratrooper and completed 28 jumps, even some in Alaska.

After completing his tour of duty, John enrolled at Eastern Michigan University.  He was a proud member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity where he made many lifelong friendships with his "buds in the bond."  John received his bachelor's and master's degrees from EMU in guidance and counseling.

John married Raylene Rippee in 1980.  They shared 43 years of love and laughter.  John and Raylene relocated to Fort Payne, Alabama in 1984 and later Guntersville, Alabama, where they owned and operated an automotive aftermarket warehouse.  They retired in 1998 and spent their leisure time on their boat on the Tennessee River traveling to Knoxville and Nashville.  John and Raylene eventually moved to Wyandotte, Michigan to be closer to their family.

John loved golf and played at many different courses around the country.  He enjoyed baking, he was always looking to find the perfect apple pie recipe.  John was a true "guys-guy" and had a genuine appreciation for all of the friends he had made over the years. John was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, Gunkholers, Lake Guntersville Yacht Club, SEMA, First United Methodist Church of Guntersville, AL, and the Scruggs Sunday School class.  He was a charter Civil Service Commissioner for the city of Sterling Heights when it was formed and served as the president of CLEA.

John is survived by wife, Raylene Izak; two daughters, Amy Izak (Johnny Mozzolla), Heidi Rediske; son, Howie (Gayle) Rediske; three sisters, Nancy (the late Joe) Jankowski, Ann Streuber, Elaine (John) Brinkey; three granddaughters, Mackenzie, Taylor, Gabrielle; and grandson, Cadence.  He is preceded in death by father, John Izak Sr.; mother, Anna Smisek Izak; and sister, Susan Potter.

Honorary pallbearers include Jerry Newton, Joe McNew, Larry Gray, Bill Pizzuti, Jerry Behaylo, Ronald Stempin, Ron Kowalski, Al Weston, and Dan Shepherd.
