Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jason Michael Gaines, who passed away on July 15, 2026. Born on September 9, 1979 in Wayne, Michigan, Jason was a beloved son, father, brother, and friend, leaving behind a tapestry of memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Jason was preceded in death by his mother, Diana Gaines. He is survived by his children: Jason Daniel, Gabrielle (Marcus) Contrastato, Aaliyah Nye, Adelyn Lee, and Mason Liam.. He also leaves behind a grandson, Jeremiah Marcello Contrastato, his grandmother Sally Pankow, and his sister Jillian (Rick Vickery) Rudin. Additionally, he is remembered fondly by a wide circle of extended aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

Known for his happy-go-lucky nature and gift of gab, Jason had the unique ability to lift others' spirits when they were feeling low. His love for music was palpable; he always had an eclectic mix playing in the background, creating an atmosphere of joy and comfort for those around him.

Though his life took many paths, his passing reminds us of the importance of family, forgiveness, and the memories we each carry in our own way. As we gather to celebrate Jason's life, we remember that every life leaves an imprint, and every story is more complex than can be told in a few words. May he now find the peace that eluded him in life, and may those who loved him, knew him, or wondered about him find comfort and healing in the days ahead. May Jason rest in peace, and may those who carry his memory find strength, grace, and hope for tomorrow.

As we prepare to honor his life, a memorial gathering will take place at Rotary Park in Garden City on August 9, 2026, from 12:00-6:00pm. Friends and family are invited to join together, sharing stories and memories of Jason that reflect the richness of his character and the love he shared. Please bring a printed photo of you and Jason for a memory board and index cards will be provided for a memory box for Jason's youngests.
