James Earl
Baker
July 17, 1924 – August 29, 2024
James Earl Baker, a man of gentle spirit and steadfast faith, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2024, at the age of 100 in Wayne, Michigan. Born on July 17, 1924, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Leslie and Violet Baker, Jim was a beacon of kindness and a testament to the power of living a life guided by Christian principles.
Jim's life was marked by his quiet demeanor and the sweet nature that endeared him to everyone he met. A devoted husband, Jim was married to his beloved wife, Jane Baker, for a magnificent 66 years until her passing. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership. He was a devoted father to his children, Kenneth (and wife Sandra) Baker and Linda (and husband Bill) Adkins. Jim's legacy of love and wisdom lives on through his adoring grandchildren, Tim (and Angie Gonzalez) Adkins, Jon (and Sarah) Adkins, Michael (and Leigh) Adkins, and Natasha Baker as well as his cherished great-grandchildren (Rileigh, Sydnee, Grayson, Tyler and Vivian Adkins), Madison Rowe and Eddie Chantigian. He is also blessed with two great granddaughters, Vivianna and Alice Rowe.
Throughout his life, Jim found solace and joy in listening to music, which lifted his spirits and brought him peace. His Christian faith was at the core of his existence, guiding his actions and providing comfort and strength through all of life's challenges.
Jim was known for his love of working on his yard and his home, where he spent countless hours ensuring everything was in perfect order. His hands were rarely still, as he enjoyed working with wood, creating and fixing things with a skill that spoke of his patience and attention to detail. He was the quintessential handy man, always preferring to fix things himself, a trait that he carried with pride and humility.
Described by those who knew him best as kind, faith-filled and handy, Jim embodied these qualities in every aspect of his life. He was a man who believed in the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the need to be self-reliant. His children and grandchildren often sought his advice on how to fix a broken toy or mend a fence, knowing that Grandpa would have the answer.
Jim's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of love, faith, and service. He was a man who believed in the power of simple acts of kindness and the importance of being a good neighbor. His memory will be held in the hearts of those he touched, as a reminder of the grace that can be found in a life well-lived.
As we bid farewell to James Earl Baker, we celebrate his century of life that was filled with moments of love, joy, and the quiet satisfaction of a job well done. He was, and will always be, a shining example of the best of us. May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy will continue to inspire and guide us for generations to come.
