Henry's journey began as the son of John Wesley and Nody Ritchie, where the warm southern sun and the values of hard work and integrity shaped his early years. His life took a defining turn when he bravely served his country as a proud World War II veteran in the US Marine Corps. After the war, he found his soulmate, Opal Helen Ritchie, and they were united in marriage in 1945. Their love story was one of devotion and companionship until her passing.
Together, Henry and Opal built a loving family, welcoming their children Joyce (Donald) Cook, and the late: Henrietta "Sue" Varner, James Ritchie, John Wayne Ritchie, David Ritchie, Darnell Ritchie, Glenn Ritchie, and Terry Ritchie. Henry's role as a father was one of his greatest joys, and his legacy continued to flourish with the birth of his grandchildren, Jeannette Cook (James Jedinak), Regina (Brian) Pokorny, and his great-grandchildren, Kayleb Tackett, Kaiden Tackett, Amelia Jedinak, Justin Pokorny, Joseph Pokorny, Jayden Pokorny, and great-great-granddaughter, Alyna Tackett. Each child and grandchild was a testament to his loving nature and the wisdom he imparted.
Henry's professional life was marked by his tenure at Ford Motor Co, where he honed his skills as a Tool & Die Maker. His craftsmanship and dedication to his work were evident in the quality and precision of his contributions. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity and commitment, qualities that extended well beyond his professional life.
Beyond his family and work, Henry had a passion for music. In his younger years, he was part of a band, playing the guitar and mouth harp with the kind of joy that only music can bring. His artistic talents also found an outlet in painting, where his thoughtful nature was reflected in every brushstroke.
A man of the community, Henry was an active member of the Moose, VFW, American Legion, and AmVets. He believed in the importance of service and camaraderie, values that he lived by and encouraged in others. His interests were diverse, including a keen eye for the stock market and an unwavering support for the Detroit Tigers. Watching the games was more than a pastime; it was a way to connect with friends, family, and the pulse of his beloved city.
Above all, Henry's love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was paramount. He was a constant presence in their lives, offering guidance, laughter, and an endless supply of stories. His wisdom and thoughtful approach to life's challenges were gifts that he generously shared, shaping the lives of those he loved.
