Hazel
Brothers
September 5, 1927 – May 9, 2025
Hazel Brothers, a steadfast and cherished matriarch, passed away peacefully in Superior Township, Michigan, on May 9, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on September 5, 1927, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Hazel was a self-possessed woman of great generosity and resolve, whose life was as rich and colorful as the northern landscapes she adored.
The daughter of the late Claude and Vivian Allen, Hazel grew up in a bustling household as one of nine siblings. Her early years in Ypsilanti were filled with the hustle and bustle of a large family, yet she always managed to carve out her path with a resolute spirit. Her enduring legacy continues through her surviving sister, Ruth Roe, and brother, Raymond Allen, who fondly remember their sister's unwavering strength and kindness.
In 1949, Hazel's life took a serendipitous turn when Harold Brothers struck up a conversation with her as she walked down the street. This chance encounter blossomed into a deep and enduring love, and they married later that year, embarking on a journey together that would last until Harold's passing in 1993. Hazel's devotion to her husband was a testament to her steadfast nature and the loving environment she created for her family.
Hazel's love and guidance were the bedrock upon which her family was built. She is survived by her three sons, Stephen Brothers, Mark Brothers and his wife Colleen, and John Brothers and his wife Lana. Hazel was a beacon of light and wisdom for her beloved grandchildren, Ashley (Cody), Mandy (Loki), Courtney (Justin), and Brandon (Cassie). Her great-grandson, Tripp, also brought her immense joy in her later years.
A true "up north girl" at heart, Hazel cherished her time at her home in Cheboygan, Michigan, where she could indulge in her love for fishing and take leisurely outings on her pontoon boat. These simple pleasures were the backdrop for countless family memories and stories that will be treasured for generations.
Hazel's interest in the world around her never waned, as evidenced by her daily ritual of watching the news. She was always keenly aware of the happenings both near and far and enjoyed engaging in conversations about current events with family and friends.
Described by those who knew her as stubborn, resolute, and generous, Hazel embodied these qualities in the most positive light. Her stubbornness was a reflection of her strong will to live life on her terms, her resoluteness showcased her unwavering commitment to her loved ones, and her generosity was felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
In every aspect of her life, whether it was as a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, or a friend, Hazel Brothers left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched. She will be remembered not only for the love she gave so freely but also for the strength and grace with which she lived her life.
As we bid farewell to Hazel, we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a woman well-loved. Her spirit, a beacon of light and love, will continue to shine in the lives of her family and all who were graced by her presence. Hazel Brothers will be deeply missed, yet her legacy will live on as a testament to a life filled with purpose, passion, and love.
