Gladys Anna
Seeger
March 21, 1923 – January 10, 2026
Gladys Anna Seeger, born on March 21, 1923, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in Westland, Michigan, on January 10, 2026. She exuded love and joy throughout her 102 years, touching the lives of all who knew her with her kindness and generosity.
As the cherished daughter of the late John and Mary Hopkins, Gladys grew up in a bustling household alongside her siblings. Her journey of love began when her best friend, dating George Seeger Jr.'s brother, orchestrated a meeting between Gladys and George. The connection was instantaneous, and they married just three months later on November 21, 1942. Their love story spanned over seven decades until George's passing in 2013.
Gladys's life was enriched by the love and companionship of her children, Sharon (the late Larry) Houg, Linda Wrobel, Bruce (Dolores Fleming) Seeger, Diane (Gregg) Droste, and her infant daughter (Diane's twin), the late Susan Seeger. She was a cherished grandmother to Donna (Steve) Frellick, Darlene Trimble, Christopher (Kris) Piskor, Kelly (Terry) Hollifield, Kara (Marc) Taub, Steven Droste, David (Kerry) Droste, and Susan (Jim) Hardy. Gladys was also a proud great-grandmother to thirteen and great-great-grandmother to two, who will all hold her memory dear in their hearts.
In the middle of a large family, Gladys was preceded in death by her siblings Joseph Hopkins, Catherine Cassidy, Michael Hopkins, Robert Hopkins, Mary Jane Sharp, John Hopkins, and Grace Briscoe-Reitz. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, who will continue to be inspired by her life.
Throughout her life, Gladys embraced every moment with an infectious enthusiasm that was truly inspiring. Even as she entered her late 80s and 90s, age remained but a number to her. Her energy and playful spirit were evident as she delighted in getting on the floor to play with her grandchildren. These precious moments were a testament to her unwavering commitment to family and the simple joys that create lasting memories.
Gladys's zest for life was evident in her many interests and hobbies. A woman who lived by the motto "I eat all the butter and chocolate I want!", she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life with great enthusiasm. She never hesitated to extend her helping hand and would never say no to anyone in need. Known for her heart of gold, Gladys was the epitome of a loving and caring mother and person, whose beauty shone from within.
Travel and camping were among Gladys's favorite activities, and together with her beloved George, she had the pleasure of exploring most of the United States, creating a tapestry of memories that she would fondly recount. Her creative spirit found joy in sewing, cross-stitching, and knitting. Many cherished her handmade teddy bears, porcelain dolls, and Emmett Kelly dolls, which were crafted with love and care.
Gladys was also an avid cake baker, known for her exquisite wedding cakes and delightful doll cakes. Her passion for cake decorating was a testament to her artistry and attention to detail. Family gatherings were often sweetened by one of her beautifully adorned creations, leaving a legacy of warm and delicious memories.
As we bid farewell to Gladys Anna Seeger, we celebrate a life lived with love, creativity, and a boundless capacity for kindness. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to have felt the warmth of her embrace and the joy of her presence. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and generosity will forever be etched in the hearts of her family and friends.
