Gilbert Sypher was born on October 6, 1931 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He passed away on August 20, 2023 at the age of 91 in Northville, Michigan.
Gilbert lived in several places while growing up including Bethlehem, PA., Bel Air, MD., Arlington, VA., and Tampa, FL., Where he graduated from Plant High School in 1949. Gilbert met his wife Dorothy at Florida State University, where they both graduated from college in 1957. He was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity, also. Gilbert and Dorothy married on December 27, 1957. They just celebrated 65 years of marriage. Life and job opportunities would take Gilbert and Dorothy to Clearwater, FL., Tampa, Fl., Macon, GA., Atlanta, GA., Fort Wayne, IN., Elgin, IL., and Westland, MI., where they raised their children.
Gilbert was a Veteran. He was a Marine Sergeant, serving in the Korean War from 1950-1952.
Gilbert was a salesman, working for Word Inc. (Waco,TX), a religious communications company.
The company published Christian records, music and books. Accolades included Salesman of the Year, 1976, Presidential Award, 1981 and he would become a Regional Manager in 1985. He retired from work on March 31, 1994.
Most importantly, Gilbert was a man of God. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Wayne, MI., for 10 years and then Ward Presbyterian Church in Northville, MI, until the time of his passing.
He was a son, brother, uncle, husband, father and grandfather. He was a good and faithful servant in all he did and said.
Gilbert is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy Sue Sypher; daughter, Kathryn (Lindy) Heinrichs; son, Gilbert Bryant Sypher; and grandchildren, Nicholas Sypher and Kealani Sypher.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard H. Jr. and Alden Sypher; his brother Howard H. III (Martha) Sypher and sisters Mary (Michael) Peraza and Alden (John) Nichols.
