Obituary

Edwin "Ed" Charles Rowe Jr., aged 88, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024, at Angela Hospice in Livonia, MI. Born on February 15, 1936, Ed was a man with an incredible work ethic who lived a life marked by dedication to his family, community and profession.

Ed began his industrious journey with a paper route as a young boy, demonstrating early the strong work ethic he was known for throughout his life. His career spanned various roles and included owning his own restaurant, significant time at Detroit Edison, and what he was most proud of, founding Rowe Electric, Inc. in 1973. While at Rowe Electric he worked as a Master Electrician and Contractor and mentored many journeymen electricians. Ed was known as being "Rowe Electric". He was also a founding member of the Associated Building Contractors. In the later part of his career, he served the community as the City of Wayne Electrical Inspector and Building Official. During this time he still kept his Rowe Electric van and was always visible throughout the community.

Beyond his professional life, Ed was committed to his community, participating in multiple local organizations such as the Wayne Rotary, Wayne Civitans, and being elected and serving two terms on the Wayne City Council. His hobbies included bowling, of which he bowled a perfect game, traveling the world to alpine ski with friends and spending time out on the water In his boat. His collection of classic cars and antique furniture was a testament to his appreciation for craftsmanship and nostalgia.

Ed's legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Susan Rowe and his two children: Dean Rowe, Debbie Marcus, and Susan's daughter Nicole (Eric) Strieter. His life was further enriched by his brother, Gerald (Pat) Rowe, and his adoring grandchildren: Krysten (Dan) Evan, Alyssa (Thad) Gunsorek, Justin (Natasha) Marcus, Meghan Marcus, Adam Rowe, Paul (Eva) Rowe, and Carley Rowe. Ed was also a proud great-grandfather to Nora, Mia, Logan, Rylee, Jack, Ellie, Berrie, and Mace. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin C. Rowe Sr. and Dorosine Elizabeth Rowe, and his sister, Betty Marie Stanford. They, along with all who knew Ed, felt the warmth of his laugh and strength of his spirit.
