Obituary

Edward James "Jim" Wellday Jr., a cherished family man and respected member of the community, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026, in Titusville, Florida. Jim was born on May 24, 1938, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Edward and Marie Wellday, both of whom predeceased him. He was the loving patriarch of a large and close-knit family that included his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was married to Eleanor "Ellie" Wellday for 37 years until her passing in 1993. Their union was blessed with joy and shared passions. In June 1996, Jim found love again and married Diane Wellday, who fondly remembers him as "the best thing to happen to me, the greatest guy." Together, they built a life full of love and companionship.

His family was his pride and joy, with his legacy living on through his children: Jimmy (Jason) Wellday, Dawn (Greg) Wright, Jennifer Webb, Albert Webb, and the late David Wellday and David Lowe. He was a grandfather to Kristin (Tommy) Jackson, Ashley (James Covington) Wellday, Kevin Wellday, Jason (Emily) Krug, Adam (Tabitha) Krug, the late Joey Krug, David (Meredith) Lowe, Stephanie Lowe, Jake Lowe, Karissa Keahey, Michael Howard, Taylor Jezeirski, Willow Marowelli and Bobby Webb. His 16 great-grandchildren also brought him immense happiness.

After a decade of dedicated service at GM, Jim took an early retirement but didn't slow down. He channeled his industrious spirit into a successful Home Repair Business, which thrived due to his skill and diligence. In 2000, Jim and Diane moved to Florida, where he continued to lend his expertise to many a neighbor's project, taking pride in a job well done.

Jim's passion for the outdoors was evident in his love for hunting and fishing, activities he enjoyed right outside his Florida home on the river. He shared these interests with his family, creating cherished memories during numerous fishing trips with his children and grandchildren. Travel and cruising were other joys in his life, allowing him to explore new horizons with Diane by his side.

His later years were marked by a gentle nature, as he often joked about transforming from a "grizzly bear to a teddy bear." Yet, Jim always had a strong will and liked things done his way, a trait that served him well in both his personal and professional life.

Jim's legacy is one of love, dedication, and the joy of shared experiences. He leaves behind a family that adores him, a community that respects him, and a world that has been made better by his presence. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who had the privilege to know him. Jim will be deeply missed, yet forever remembered as a man who lived a life full of purpose, love, and laughter.
