Obituary

Dorothy Margaret Ewing, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, in Wayne, Michigan. Born on September 4, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Arthur and Marguerite Colpaert, Dorothy's journey through life was marked by an unwavering commitment to her family, her faith, and the joy of simple pleasures.

Dorothy's heart found its match in Robert Ewing Sr., whom she married on August 20, 1955. Their love story was one for the ages, a romance that burned brightly through 64 years of marriage until Robert's passing on October 29, 2019. Friends often remarked that Dorothy and Robert were the most romantic couple they knew, and it was clear to all that they carried a torch for each other until their last breaths. Together, they embarked on 14 cruises and numerous bus tours, creating a tapestry of memories that Dorothy cherished deeply.

A devoted mother and matriarch, Dorothy's legacy is carried on by her loving daughters, Pamela (Ben) Lincoln and Cynthia (Walter) Kaptanowsky, and her adoring grandchildren, Brandon Lincoln, Scott (Taylor) Kaptanowsky, Adam (Reese Gerovac) Kaptanowsky, and Erik (Brittany) Kaptanowsky. Her great-grandsons, Otto Pryde Kaptanowsky and Reid Thomas Kaptanowsky, will grow up hearing tales of their great-grandmother's warmth and kindness. Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved son, Robert Ewing Jr., and her brothers, Victor and Arthur Colpaert.

Known affectionately as "Mom" to everyone, Dorothy's home was always a haven of compassion and welcome. She was a devout Catholic, living her faith through acts of kindness and a spirit of generosity that touched everyone she met. Dorothy's love for her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she relished the moments spent camping and sharing adventures with them.

Dorothy's zest for life was evident in her passion for travel, her enjoyment of ice cream, complete with the cherished cherry on top that she playfully reserved for her grandkids, and her love of getting lost in a good book. Whether it was a gripping murder mystery, an inspiring piece of Christian fiction, or a heartwarming romance, Dorothy's love for reading was a testament to her curious and imaginative spirit.

Described by those who knew her as loving, faith-filled, compassionate, and thoughtful, Dorothy's presence was a gift to all. Her ability to find joy in the everyday and her capacity for unwavering love will be remembered by her family, friends, nieces, nephews, and the many lives she touched.

Dorothy's story may have reached its final chapter on this earth, but her legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire those who were blessed to know her. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we take comfort in knowing that Dorothy Margaret Ewing's spirit will forever remain a guiding light in the hearts of those she loved.
