Obituary

Donna McEachern (Blanchard) was born on October 30, 1941 in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada.  She passed away on August 17, 2022 at the age of 80 in Monroe, Michigan.

Donna married the love of her life, Barry McEachern on July 8, 1960.  Together they shared a life full of love and happiness.  They had two wonderful children, Donna Colleen and Barry D.  She took great care of her family throughout the years and spoiled all of them rotten.  Her nurturing and caring nature led her to become passionate about the city she lived in for years to come.

Donna was extremely well known and loved by many in the city of Wayne.  Donna served as a councilwoman for 25 years, where she was instrumental in the beautification and renewal of her beloved city.  She served as a liaison between multiple city boards such as the library board, the Nankin Transit board, beautification committee, and the Downtown Development Authority, which she worked endlessly to establish during her time as Wayne Chamber of Commerce Director.  Donna held a "If there's a problem, I will find the solution" mentality that made her a valued leader figure within the community.

Donna was involved in numerous civic organizations as well.  She was a member of the Wayne Rotary Club, of which she was the first female member and served as first female president from 1992-93.  She was also involved in the Wayne Business & Professional Women, Wayne Garden Club, Wayne 100 Club, Salvation Army Board, YWCA Board, co-chair of the Kim Loveless Project,  member of the Paul Franks Furniture Fundraising Board, and many other organizations within the Wayne community.  Donna was a leader within the city, but she also held a strong faith throughout her life.  She and Barry were members of St. Mary Catholic Church in Wayne for many years.

One of Donna's last wishes was to have popcorn with her when her cremation occurred so that "it would be EPIC!"

Donna is survived by daughter, Donna (E. Randall) Harder; son, Barry D. (Martha) McEachern; granddaughter, Colleen (Brett) Harder; grandson, Ian McEachern; and granddaughter, Meredith McEachern.  She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Barry McEachern, and parents, Kenneth Blanchard and Dorothy Blanchard.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to friends and neighbors who were so kind and thoughtful and helpful.  We would also like to thank AccentCare Hospice and especially Dr. Karen Weaver who helped to make Donna's wish to pass at home possible.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Wayne Rotary Club, IHM Sisters of Monroe, or the City of Wayne BPW.
