Donald Judson
Halley
October 17, 1945 – March 9, 2026
Donald Judson Halley, a man of adventure, intelligence, and immense love, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, in Wayne, Michigan. Born on October 17, 1945, in the vibrant community of Highland Park, Michigan, Don's life was a testament to his enduring spirit and commitment to family and education.
Don is lovingly remembered by his son, James Halley and daughter-in-law, Mary; his sister, Linda Graber and her husband, Dale; Son in law, Jim Starks; his cherished grandchildren, Maggie and Manny Halley; and Elizabeth, Evelyn, and Abby Starks. His canine companion, Goober, will miss his head scratches and belly rubs. Don's memory will be held dear in the hearts of those he has left behind. Don's life journey began alongside his parents, the late James Judson Halley and Charlene Halley, and he was a source of strength and support for his beloved daughter, Becky Starks, who preceded him in death.
A proud Huron, not an Eagle, Don's pursuit of knowledge led him to Eastern Michigan University, where he not only earned a Master's degree in History but also made his mark on the football field. His passion for history and sports was a cornerstone of his life, shaping his career and personal interests.
For over three decades, Don dedicated his life to teaching in the Wayne Westland schools, touching the lives of countless students with his wisdom and dedication. His commitment to education extended beyond the classroom as he diligently kept stats for the Wayne Memorial Football team for over 50 years, a testament to his love for the game and his community.
Don's zest for life was evident in his love for the casino, humorously referring to it as "going to work." MGM will surely miss his presence. His adventurous spirit led him on long bike rides, fearlessly crossing state lines and embracing the freedom of the open road. In his younger years, Don instilled the love of the outdoors in his son James, sharing memorable camping experiences that would last a lifetime.
Above all, Don valued education and family. His love for his family was unwavering, and he took great pride in their accomplishments. He was the embodiment of an adventurous, intelligent, and loving individual, and his legacy will continue through the lives he has influenced.
Donald Judson Halley's life was a remarkable journey of passion, learning, and love. As we bid farewell to a man who has left an indelible mark on our hearts, we celebrate the memories and the wisdom he imparted. Don's story does not end here; it carries on through the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, dear Don, your spirit will continue to inspire us all.
