Donald Herbert
Boyes
January 19, 1944 – June 2, 2025
Donald Herbert Boyes, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, in Garden City, Michigan, at the age of 81. Born on January 19, 1944, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to the late Virginia E. Turner and Herbert K. Boyes, Don's life was a testament to his passion, selflessness, and loving nature. Don graduated from Michigan State University in 1967 with a bachelor's in Labor Relations and a minor in Psychology and dedicated many years to the automotive industry as a skilled Tool and Die Designer, retiring in 2007. His work was not just a job but a reflection of his fascination with the mechanics of things and how they worked. He was also an active member of his community, serving as the treasurer of the Wayne High Schools Alumni Association, where he was respected and admired for his commitment and integrity. Married to his beloved wife, Carla, for nearly 58 years, Don was a devoted family man. Together, they raised two daughters, Cynthia (Scott) Wetzel and Stephanie (Thomas) Barretta, who remember him as a good dad who instilled in them the values of compassion and kindness. Don's joy was multiplied with the birth of his grandchildren, Liam, Lucas, Teagan, and Lola, who will carry forward his legacy of love and generosity. Don's brother, Robert T. Boyes, will fondly recall the bond they shared throughout their lives. Don's love for animals was well-known, as was the love they returned to him. He was an avid Gin player who won most hands. His regular viewing of Fox News kept him informed and engaged with the world around him. Neighbors knew Don as a good Samaritan who, in times when snow blowers were a rarity, would clear the snow from their driveways without a second thought. His selfless acts of kindness, whether it was doing favors without being asked or his willingness to help anyone in need made him well regarded in his community. Don also had a sharp, dry wit that consistently brought laughter to those around him. His quick thinking and clever humor left a lasting impression. Don Herbert Boyes lived a life marked by love, service, and the simple joys of family and friendship. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by those who had the privilege of knowing him. As we say goodbye to Don, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who were touched by his warmth and generosity.
