Monroe
March 21, 1934 – September 8, 2024
Dixie Ruth Monroe, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024, at the age of 90 in Livonia, Michigan. Born on March 21, 1934, in Chillicothe, Missouri, Dixie's life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and the joy she found in Jesus.
Dixie was the beloved wife of Jim Monroe, her high school sweetheart. Their love story was one for the ages, as they married just two weeks after graduation and cherished 72 years of marriage filled with devotion and mutual respect. Together, they built a family that became Dixie's pride and joy.
She was a loving mother to Michael (Melody) Monroe, Gregory (Sarah) Monroe, the late Scott (Sherry) Monroe, and Cylinda (Jon) Ring. Dixie's legacy continued to flourish through her grandchildren, Nathan (Michaela) Monroe, Daniel Monroe, Kaydi (Dan) Frost, Miriam (Spencer) Wiard, Colby (Nadine) Ring, Corey (Mahra) Monroe, Kelsi (Jacob) Brusehaver, Conner Monroe, and Karli Ring, as well as her 14 great-grandchildren who brought her immeasurable happiness.
Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Lucy Smith, her son Scott Monroe, and her siblings Vernon Smith, Charles Smith, Louetta Benson, and Judy Wynne. She is survived by her brother George (the late Diane) Smith, who, along with the rest of the family, will forever cherish her memory.
A proud graduate of Wayne Memorial High School, Dixie's professional life was marked by her dedication to her role as a bookkeeper, a career that spanned an impressive 45 years. Her meticulous attention to detail and unwavering work ethic were hallmarks of her character, and she only just retired at the age of 90.
Dixie's interests were as rich and varied as her life. A woman of faith, she loved the Lord and served others with a generosity that knew no bounds. She was the epitome of a classy lady, always dressed meticulously, exuding elegance and grace. Her skills in the kitchen were unparalleled, and she delighted in hosting gatherings where she could share her culinary talents.
An avid garage sale enthusiast, Dixie found joy in the treasure hunt and the stories behind each find. Her green thumb was evident in her beautiful garden, a place where she found peace and solace. Traveling, especially her cruises and annual trips to Arizona, was a source of great enjoyment and adventure for Dixie.
Those who knew Dixie will remember her for her faith-filled spirit, her loving heart, and her unfailingly kind nature. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she was renowned for her welcoming embrace, always eager to include others in her circle of warmth. Dixie's home was a haven where friends and family were greeted with open arms and where love was always the main ingredient. She was the matriarch who held her family together, the friend who listened with an open heart, and the community member who always lent a helping hand. Her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire those who knew her.
As we bid farewell to Dixie Ruth Monroe, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with grace. She was a treasure to all who knew her, and her memory will be held close in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
