Delbert G. Bussard, 91, passed away at Brecon Village in Saline, Michigan on August 11th, 2021.
Del was born on June, 9th, 1930 in Denver, Colorado to Julius and Myrtle Bussard. As a young man, Del served his country in the Army Reserves. Later, he started an earthmoving contracting business, proudly owning over 30 pieces of heavy earthmoving equipment. After selling that business he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where he met his wife, Beth Powell. They were married on May 1st, 1976, celebrating their 45th anniversary earlier this year. They enjoyed commercial salmon fishing on their boat, The Bethie B, in Coos Bay, Oregon, then moved to Bakersfield, California and went on many cruises throughout the world. After traveling for several years, Del opened a new contracting business, Bussard Construction Co., specializing in erecting steel buildings.
Next, their daughter, Vickie, encouraged them to move near her in Jacksonville, Florida where they had a very fulfilling life with their church. They loved being involved in ministries that helped others in need. Del especially enjoyed teaching Sunday School.
Their final residence was in Saline, Michigan to be closer to more of their family who could help them as they got older. Here Del was able to concentrate on playing chess daily; a game he loved all his life. He would play up to 40 or 50 games simultaneously on the internet with people all over the country.
Let's all remember the mantra Del lived by: "CHOOSE TO BE HAPPY!"
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Claudia Bussard-Hays. He is survived by his loving wife, Beth Bussard, sister Jackie (Lee) Fregeau, children Ric Bussard, Connie (Bob) Gula, Vickie Stevens, Loren (Teresa) Powell and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
