Daniel Jerome
Smith
December 4, 1953 – February 9, 2024
Daniel Jerome Smith, known to all as Dan, brought laughter and light into the world from the moment he was born on December 4, 1953, in Ypsilanti, Michigan. On February 9, 2024, at the age of 70, Dan's final curtain call came in Livonia, Michigan, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family.
Dan lived a life as vibrant and dynamic as his personality. On February 15, 1975, he married the love of his life, Roxanne, and together they created a legacy of love and laughter that continued through their daughters, Angela Golden and Nicole (Dave) Ketterer. His role as a doting grandfather to Ashley Jones, Mila Ketterer, and Raegan Ketterer was performed with the same passion and dedication he gave to every part of his life.
For many years, Dan was the spark that lit up the Ford Motor Company as an electrician, where his quick wit and humor were as dependable as his skilled craftsmanship. His colleagues knew that even on the toughest days, Dan could be counted on to crack a joke that would make the entire room erupt in laughter.
Dan's interests painted the picture of a man who knew the value of joy and companionship. His quick wit was legendary, and his ability to make people laugh was a gift that he generously shared with everyone he met. He may have been quiet, but his strong presence was undeniable, especially as the beloved caretaker of the ladies in his life. As a great friend and a cherished presence, Dan was the kind of person you wanted by your side, whether you were watching a Red Wings game or just enjoying a quiet evening at home.
Describing Dan is easy: loving, funny, and thoughtful. These words encapsulate a man who approached life with a heart full of love and a pocket full of jokes. He was a big Red Wings fan, and it's said that his loyalty to the team was only matched by his loyalty to his friends and family.
In the spirit of Dan's love for humor, let's remember him with a quote from the great comedian George Burns, who once said, "Happiness is having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family in another city." Dan, however, cherished having his large, loving, and caring family right by his side.
Daniel Jerome Smith's story may have come to an end, but the laughter he inspired and the memories he created will continue to echo in the hearts of those who knew him. He was a beacon of joy in the lives of many, and his legacy will live on through the smiles and chuckles he left behind. Dan, thank you for the laughter, the love, and the memories. Curtain down, applause up, for a life beautifully lived.
