Daniel Robert Ropek Sr., a cherished educator, devoted family man, and respected veteran, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025, in Canton, Michigan, at the age of 91. Born on December 3, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Alexander and Irene Ropek, Daniel's life was marked by a deep commitment to his family, his students, and his country.
Daniel's journey through life was one of continuous learning and teaching. After serving honorably in the US Army, he pursued his passion for education, obtaining a Bachelor's degree from Wayne State University followed by a Master's degree from Eastern Michigan University. He dedicated most of his professional life to teaching, touching the lives of countless students with his knowledge and compassion.
In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sherrill Ropek, his daughter, Melissa Yotsuya, and his siblings, Sharon Ash and Alexander Ropek. He leaves behind a legacy of love and wisdom through his family: children, Daniel (Ramona) Ropek Jr., Kimberly (Lee) Goldenstein, Sherrill L. (Dean) Rodriguez, and Catherine Langan; brother, Timothy (Mary) Ropek; brother-in-law, Roger Ash; sister-in-law, Jane Smith; grandchildren, Brooks Rodriguez, Alexandria Weisberg, Olivia Weisberg, Lucas Ropek, Grace Rodriguez, Justin Manning, Callie Rodriguez, Neil Yotsuya, and Graham Yotsuya; and great-grandchildren, Damien Manning, Molly Manning, and Sadie Martin.
Daniel's life was enriched by his love for travel, which took him to the beautiful shores of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and the historic landscapes of Europe. These journeys not only satisfied his wanderlust but also deepened his love for history, a subject he taught with great enthusiasm. His garden was a testament to his patience and nurturing spirit, flourishing under his attentive care.
An athlete at heart, Daniel enjoyed a variety of sports. He was known for his skill in basketball, golf, and softball, playing recreationally and sharing his love for sports with his children and grandchildren. His competitive spirit was balanced by his loving and kind nature, making him a spirited companion on and off the field.
Daniel's character was the epitome of kindness and love. He was a man who led by example, inspiring those around him to strive for their best while always offering a helping hand. His spirited laughter and warm presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
