Charles Edward
Ables, Jr.
July 22, 1947 – June 1, 2024
Charles Edward Ables Jr., aged 76, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2024, in Garden City, Michigan. Born on July 22, 1947, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Charles was a man whose life was characterized by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a passion for the simple pleasures in life.
Charles's early years were spent in the warm embrace of his late parents, Charles and Nellie Ables. He grew up alongside his brothers, the late Virgil and Larry Ables, in a home filled with love and laughter. After graduating from high school, he bravely served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1966 to 1969, achieving the rank of E-5 and being stationed in Germany during a time of great global tension.
Upon returning to civilian life, Charles found his calling as a painter in the automotive industry. He dedicated many years of service to Taylor Chrysler, where his meticulous work was greatly valued. His colleagues remember him as a kind and friendly presence, always ready with a warm smile and a helping hand.
Charles's heart belonged to his family, especially his loving wife of 53 years, Jeanette Ables. Together, they built a life filled with joy and purpose, raising their children, Tracy (Bill) Tatro and Scott Ables, with the same love and guidance he had received as a child. Charles was a beacon of kindness and stability for his family, and his legacy lives on through them.
His grandchildren, Cailee (Coty), Ciara (Justin), and Caseigh, brought him immeasurable happiness. Though he grieved the loss of his granddaughter, the late Crysta Brianne, Charles's love for his grandchildren never wavered. He cherished the walks to the park with them during their childhood and took great pride in each of their accomplishments.
Though he is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Deborah Ables, and his in-laws, Jack and Patricia Thomas, Charles's legacy of love continues through the stories and memories shared by all who were touched by his presence.
An avid lover of the arts, Charles enjoyed painting pictures, capturing scenes of nature and life with his brush. Golfing, playing chess, and shooting pool were among his favorite pastimes, along with watching old war movies, which reminded him of the camaraderie and spirit of his days in the service.
To those who knew him, Charles was the epitome of a loving, kind, and friendly man. His gentle demeanor and genuine interest in others earned him the affection and respect of many. A devoted family man, Charles's presence was a source of comfort and joy to those around him.
As we bid farewell to Charles Edward Ables Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, a life filled with purpose, love, and an unwavering commitment to family. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
