Obituary

Billy Ray Carpenter, age 77, passed away on March 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and the many memories he created throughout a life marked by service, hard work, laughter, and devotion.

Born on April 28, 1948, Billy was the beloved son of the late Jack and Marjorie Carpenter. He lived a life defined by kindness, loyalty, and a genuine love for people. Those who knew him will remember him as a funny, friendly, and loving man who had a gift for making others feel welcome. He made friends everywhere he went, and his warm personality left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

Billy proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. His sense of duty and discipline carried throughout his life, and he remained proud of his military service. Following his time in the Air Force, he worked for over 40 years at General Motors as a skilled trades machine repairman. He was respected for his strong work ethic, his reliability, and the pride he took in doing a job well. Billy was also a devoted UAW member and a Master Mason, associations that reflected his commitment to brotherhood, service, and integrity.

On September 23, 1967, Billy married the love of his life, Sandra Carpenter, and together they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. Their bond was one of deep love, companionship, and mutual devotion. Sandra was by his side through the many seasons of life, and together they built a family filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. He was a proud and loving father to Lisa (Christopher) Purcell, Billy Carpenter Jr., Christine Barretta, and Jason Carpenter. He was also a cherished brother to Paula Roach, Donna Knight, and Larry Carpenter, and he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Patterson.

Billy's greatest joy was his family, and he especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He treasured Michael, Drake, Makayla, Christopher II, Aubrey, Makenzie, Mason, and he held a special place in his heart for his great-grandsons Leon and Vincent. He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved, and he never missed an opportunity to share a joke, tell a story, or offer encouragement. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him immense pride and happiness, and he loved them deeply.

In his free time, Billy enjoyed golf and bowling and spent many years on leagues for both. He also enjoyed deer hunting, woodworking, and building things with his hands. He was always ready to help anyone in need, and he was known for lending a helping hand without hesitation. Whether he was fixing something, sharing a laugh, or simply being present for someone who needed him, Billy lived with generosity and heart.

Billy Ray Carpenter will be remembered for his humor, his friendliness, and his loving spirit. He leaves behind a legacy of service, hard work, devotion to family, and the kind of everyday kindness that cannot be forgotten. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
