Beverly Rae
Woodard
September 18, 1937 – March 28, 2025
Beverly Rae Woodard, a beacon of warmth and generosity, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, at the age of 87 in Canton, Michigan. Born on September 18, 1937, in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late Russell and Alene Kneale, Beverly was a cherished soul whose life was a testament to the power of kindness and dedication.
Beverly's journey through life was one marked by love, both given and received. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur Woodard, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage of 55 years until his passing in 2015. The couple first met in college, forging a partnership that would be filled with mutual support and affection. Beverly was the loving mother of Wayne Woodard and his wife Michele, and the late Douglas Woodard. She was the adored grandmother of Justine (William) Luke, Wayne, Michael, Caleb, and Sharon (Jacob Kopka) Woodard, and the proud great-grandmother to Josephine, William, Jaclyn, and Juliette.
Beverly's love extended to her siblings, Elaine (Lee) Staudt, Barbara Oerther, Earle Kneale, and Janet Swenson, and she was an aunt treasured by many nieces and nephews. Her family was her pride and joy, and she embraced every moment with them, especially cherishing her role as a grandmother.
An alumna of Eastern University, Beverly dedicated 32 years of her life to nurturing young minds as a Kindergarten teacher with the Wayne-Westland School District. Her passion for education was evident in her commitment to her students, and she often remarked that, second only to her family, teaching was her greatest pride.
Beverly's influence reached far beyond the classroom. She was a pillar of her community, recognized with a city service award for her tireless volunteer work. She contributed her time and energy to several organizations, including Lady's Literary, Friends of the Library, Civitan Club where she also served as a mentor for the Junior Civitan Club, and the Wayne Garden Club. Her devotion to the First Congregational Church in Wayne spanned many years, during which she engaged in numerous volunteer activities.
Beverly's interests were as vast as her heart. She had an insatiable love for reading, with a particular fondness for mysteries, which captivated her imaginative spirit. An enthusiast of card games, she enjoyed the strategy and camaraderie of Pinochle and Bridge. Travel was another of Beverly's passions; she embarked on memorable adventures with her sisters, exploring the wonders of Australia, Africa, Ireland, and Scotland.
Friends and family knew Beverly as an extraordinarily bright individual whose generosity knew no bounds. She lived by the belief that everyone she met was a friend, and her welcoming nature was felt by all. Described as wise, generous, and loving, Beverly's legacy is one of unwavering kindness and profound wisdom.
Beverly Rae Woodard's life was a mosaic of meaningful relationships, selfless service, and joyful experiences. Her radiant smile and compassionate spirit will be profoundly missed, yet her influence will continue to live on through the lives she touched. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we celebrate the legacy she leaves behind-a legacy of love, education, and community.
