Obituary

Betty Louise Guyzik, a beacon of kindness and generosity, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025, in Livonia, MI, at the age of 85. Born on February 9, 1940, in Drum, KY, Betty's life was a testament to the power of love, compassion, and resilience.

Betty's early years in Drum and southwest Detroit were filled with the warmth of a large family, which would later reflect in her own approach to life. She was a sister to many, sharing her childhood with Georgia Mounce-Szlachta, Frances "Fran" Mounce-Balentine, Sharon Kilgore, Doris "Dorsey" Donati, and Jane "Janie" Bullock. Betty's heart grew with the love she received from her parents, Carvel Jay Mounce and Mary A. Mounce, whose memories she cherished long after they, along with her brothers Deward, Barry, Edgar "Eddie," Joesph "Joey," and James "Jimmy" Mounce, preceded her in death.

Betty's capacity for love knew no bounds, and it was this quality that endeared her to John Odell Guyzik, her late husband, with whom she shared a life full of joy and tenderness. Together, they nurtured a family that would become Betty's greatest pride. She is survived by her adoring children, Barbara Blanton, Jerry (Renia) Blanton, Kelly Laderoot, and Ralph (Constance "Mpuya") Laderoot. Each of her children benefited from her unwavering support and selfless care, especially her "baby" Kelly, to whom she dedicated 49 years as a caregiver.

Betty's love extended beyond her immediate family to her cherished grandchildren, Sandra (Jason) Mullins, Karen (Brad) Cole, Arlen Travis (Charity) Blanton, Natasha "Tash" Laderoot, Hayden Laderoot, and Veronica. Each of them was touched by her gentle spirit and the profound sense of belonging she provided.

Affectionately known as a "firecracker," Betty's zest for life was contagious. Her enthusiasm for the Red Wings was matched only by her passion for helping others. Described as a mother to all, not just to her four children, Betty's presence in the community was a constant source of comfort and aid. She was the type of woman who would go out of her way to support anyone in need, embodying the true essence of generosity and kindness.

Betty's impact on those around her was profound, and her neighbors, Carrie, Jeff, and George, will forever be grateful for the privilege of knowing her and were always there to lend a helping hand for Betty when she needed it. They, along with countless others whose lives she touched, will remember Betty for her unwavering love and the joy she brought to every encounter.

As we bid farewell to Betty Louise Guyzik, we celebrate a life lived with fullness and grace. Her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Betty's spirit, a blend of warmth, compassion, and vivacity, will forever be cherished and remembered by all.
