Betty Jean
Carpenter
July 27, 1934 – November 12, 2023
Betty Carpenter (Conn) was born on July 27, 1934 in Yates Center, Kansas. She passed away on November 12, 2023 at the age of 89 in Holt, Michigan.
Betty grew up in Yates Center, Kansas and graduated from Yates Center High School. After graduation, Betty moved to Topeka, Kansas, where she worked at Santa Fe Railroad and met the love of her life, Merlin Carpenter. They got married on September 16, 1961 and shared over 40 years of love and laughter prior to Merlin's passing in 2008. Together they had one child: Darin. Betty was a member of Newburgh United Methodist Church for many years. In her younger years, Betty enjoyed traveling. She and Merlin went on many vacations to places like Texas, Florida, Nashville, Washington DC, and Las Vegas. Betty loved baseball. Although she was a Detroit Tigers fan, her heart belonged to the Kansas City Royals. Betty was a loving and devoted grandmother to her two grandsons. She attended all of their events, no matter the distance. She always had a stocked purse with candy, especially Dum Dum suckers, for her boys. She was loved by many and she will be deeply missed.
Betty is survived by son, Darin (Debbie) Carpenter; two grandsons: Brandon Carpenter and Matthew Carpenter; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by husband, Merlin Carpenter; parents, George and Ethel Conn, two sisters: Frances Meyer and Vera Goebel.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Newburgh United Methodist Church or make a donation in her honor to a charity of your choice.
