Obituary

Barbara Ann Pagenkopf, fondly known as Barb, was a beacon of light and laughter in the lives of everyone she touched. Born on a kitchen table in East Prairie, Missouri, on December 22, 1952, she arrived in this world with the same flair and originality that she carried throughout her life. Barb's journey on Earth came to a gentle close on November 7, 2024, in Wayne, Michigan, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family.

Barb was the beloved daughter of Velma Miller, who brought her into this world in true DIY fashion, and her father, Shelly, who predeceased her. She shared a loving 10-year union with her husband, Michael Pagenkopf, whom she bowled over - literally - in a bowling league, thanks to his brother's matchmaking skills. Together, they navigated the lanes of life with the same precision and joy they found in their favorite sport.

She was the proud mother of Ronda (Jeff) Robertson and Michael (Nicole) Masters, and the cherished grandmother to a squad of grandkids: Jeffery (Paige), Alicyn, Macy, Riley, Korrina, Alaina, and Kayla. Barb also delighted in her great-grandchildren, Jaden, Lillyann, and Violet, nurturing them with the same love and care she gave to every plant in her garden, except for Landen, her great-grandson who sadly left the world before her.

If you knew Barb, you knew that her life was anything but ordinary. Her mother, Velma Miller, not only gave birth to her on that sturdy kitchen table but also partnered with her at "Barb's Salon" in Westland. Together, they snipped and styled their way into the hearts of the community. When Velma hung up her scissors, Barb powered on as the salon's charismatic and creative sole owner. Her professional life was as vibrant as her personality. With her hands skilled in the art of hairdressing, she shaped and styled her way through 40-plus years in the industry.  Her salon wasn't just a place for cuts and colors; it was a hub of laughter, advice, and the occasional life-changing conversation beneath the hairdryers.

A woman of many interests, Barb was as fierce on the golf course and bowling alley as she was in her kindness and creativity. She was the life of any party and the heart of every holiday. Her kitchen was an aromatic wonderland where she conjured up feasts for the senses, and her BBQs were legendary - ribs and punchlines served with equal zest. She was the life and soul of St. Raphael's Festival, manning the pop and chip tent with the kind of enthusiasm usually reserved for winning the lottery. Barb was all about having fun and making memories.

And let's not forget her co-star, Charlie, the golden doodle with a penchant for stealing scenes and hearts alike. Barb adored that fluffy bundle of mischief, and their double act was one for the ages.

Barb's spirit was indomitable. She was the friend you wanted in your corner - sweet and friendly, but with a backbone of steel. Her laughter was infectious, her advice priceless, and she never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand, or a sarcastic quip, whichever was needed more.

She leaves behind a tapestry of friends and family, including her best friend since high school and lifetime coworker, Marla, who could write a book on their shenanigans. Her mother-in-law, Joan, uncle-in-law, Joe, and brother-in-law, Mark (Dorothy), will miss her dearly, as will her stepchildren, Dwayne and Leanne, and siblings, Janet and Tammy, who were blessed to have her in their lives.

Barb was a woman of many hats - spirited, kind, and endlessly creative. To say she will be missed is an understatement as vast as her collection of bowling trophies. Her legacy is a blueprint for living life with gusto, generosity, and a touch of sass.

As we bid farewell to Barb, we imagine her organizing a bowling league in the sky, complete with angelic cheerleaders and a heavenly BBQ cook-off. Her laughter echoes in our hearts, and her spirit continues to inspire us to live life to the fullest - with a little bit of spice and a whole lot of love. Barb, you bowled a perfect game in life, and for that, we are forever grateful.
