Obituary

Barbara Ilene Duka, age 75, of Westland, Michigan, passed away on April 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the many cherished memories she created throughout her life. Born on May 19, 1950, she lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and a warm spirit that touched everyone who knew her.

Barbara was the beloved wife of George Duka, with whom she shared 59 wonderful years of marriage after being united on December 3, 1966. Their marriage was a lasting example of love, loyalty, and companionship, and Barbara treasured the life they built together. She was a devoted mother to Brian Duka (Jennifer Offerman) and Jason Duka, and she took great pride in her family. Her love extended deeply to her grandchildren, Brianna Duka (Corey Whitaker), Kayla (Zack) Duka, Jake Avery, Ann Marie Zarzycki (Drew Berry), and Justin Zarzycki, as well as to her great-grandchildren, Adeline, Opal, George, Andrew, and Willow. Barbara also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will remember her with affection and gratitude.

She was the cherished daughter of the late Jean and John Manchester and the loving sister of Lois (the late Tim) Bennett, and Roger (Rosie) Williamson. She also held a special place in the hearts of her husband's siblings, Nick (the late Sharon) Duka, Kenny (Ellen) Duka, and Robert (Karen) Duka. Barbara valued family above all else, and her home and heart were always open to those she loved.

Barbara worked at the Fox Hole Record Shop in Garden City, where her friendly nature and easy smile made her a pleasure to know. She later became a line dance instructor at the Westland Friendship Center, where she was so loved by all who attended. Her energy, patience, and joyful personality made her a favorite among friends and students alike. She had a gift for making others feel welcome, and she brought happiness wherever she went.

Barbara loved country line dancing and found great joy in sharing that passion with others. She volunteered often, always willing to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed. She helped raise the neighborhood kids, offering guidance, care, and a steady presence that many came to depend on. She enjoyed spending time at the casino, and she was known for sending cards to everyone for all occasions, remembering birthdays, holidays, and special moments with thoughtful kindness. Above all, she loved spending time with her husband, and their shared life was filled with companionship, laughter, and devotion.

Barbara was a loving and friendly woman who was admired for her generous heart and her fun-loving nature. She had a way of making people feel seen, valued, and cared for, and her presence brought comfort and joy to many. Her life was a beautiful reflection of love, family, and friendship, and she will be remembered with deep affection by all who were blessed to know her.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will forever cherish her kindness, her laughter, and the many ways she made life brighter for those around her. Barbara Ilene Duka will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered always.
